Does a man in his late 40s need surgery?

I am in my late 40s and employed.

My job is half office work and half standing work.

It didn't happen very often before, but lately my legs cramp and swell when I stand.

I looked into varicose veins, and there are no bulging blood vessels yet, so they said no treatment is needed for now.

It seems that mostly women receive treatment.

I'm curious if men also do it and when they should have the surgery.
