"Why has the person changed so much?"... What are the signs of dementia that shouldn't be ignored?

Starting in their 30s, the brain begins to shrink very slowly. Most people may not notice, but this can cause the brain's processing speed to slow down and retrieval to become slower. In other words, even though information is still stored in the mind, it takes a bit more time to retrieve it.

According to the American health and medical media 'Prevention,' some symptoms may not be normal age-related phenomena but could indicate serious cognitive decline. Experts say, "Dementia is usually diagnosed when two or more cognitive areas show significant decline, and these changes inevitably affect daily life."

This generally indicates not only problems with language, visual and spatial functions, or multitasking execution but also the onset of memory impairment. Based on materials such as 'Prevention,' we have summarized the early signs of dementia that should never be ignored. If one of these signs occurs and affects daily life, consulting a doctor and undergoing cognitive testing is the best course of action.

"Personality completely changes" = People with dementia tend to become more irritable, have lower tolerance for frustration, and may cry more easily. There are also opposite personality changes. People with irritable or very strong personalities can sometimes become much gentler or more affectionate.

"Getting lost in familiar places" = Memory loss and difficulties in visual and spatial perception can lead to a loss of sense of direction. When suffering from dementia, individuals may become confused even in places they have visited hundreds of times and can easily get lost while driving.

"Constantly losing things" = When an ordinary person cannot find their keys or remote control, they can logically think about where they might have put the item. However, if they have dementia, such deductive reasoning can be difficult. This can lead to frustration, causing them to suspect that the item has been stolen.

"Forget what you just learned" = Sometimes you may forget trivial things, but if you have dementia, you will have difficulty retaining new information to the extent that it affects your life. When conversing, family or those around you may notice first if you repeat the same questions or cannot remember details of a TV program you just watched. Additionally, learning new tasks, such as using a mobile phone or a new computer program, becomes increasingly difficult.

"Cannot spend money properly" = Dementia patients have difficulty with abstract thinking, such as mathematics. As a result, they may have problems in daily life, such as failing to pay bills on time or making double payments. They may also make poor judgments when it comes to spending money.

Confusing time = thinking it's breakfast when it's actually evening, or being unable to remember the day of the week without looking at a calendar can be a sign of cognitive impairment. As dementia progresses, individuals may wake up in the middle of the night and get dressed. It also becomes difficult to know the seasons or the year.

"Forget familiar words" = In addition to forgetting names and being unable to retain new information, one may also forget familiar words such as clock, refrigerator, etc. They may stop in the middle of a sentence or be unable to continue the conversation.

"Distancing oneself from social gatherings" = When affected by dementia, many people tend to avoid parties or events with large groups. They begin to withdraw from friends as they struggle to join conversations or remember the names of people they do not meet daily.

The illness that my mom should not get caught with the most

It seems like I have dementia.

I don't have any memory, so I'm not sure.

He says it's a terminal illness for the remaining family members.

These days, it seems like the illnesses you get are not related to aging.

It is said that dementia can also appear in young people.
