I have had epilepsy symptoms since I was young, and I wrote about my experiences to overcome epilepsy. I share reviews about the types of epilepsy, symptoms, and treatments.
Epilepsy can appear from childhood or adulthood. In childhood, it manifests due to congenital reasons such as encephalitis, meningitis, or brain injury. In adulthood, it is divided into two categories: those caused by tumors, infections, strokes, etc. In my case, I have had epilepsy since childhood. The reasons for developing epilepsy first are varied—genetic, accidents, brain injuries, brain tumors, or sequelae from previous conditions—so it is important to find the cause and treat it. The process of identifying the cause is never easy. However, consistent treatment and a mindset that says "I can overcome epilepsy" are crucial.
There are two main symptoms associated with epilepsy. One is a sudden stiffening of the entire body, where only one arm moves, and the person drools and froths at the mouth. This is called generalized epilepsy. The other is convulsive epilepsy, where the body stiffens but the pupils remain fixed in the air, and the seizures are not severe—just twitching of the body. I am closer to the latter, which is the most common symptom among epilepsy patients. I truly have no memory of what happened. Usually, partial seizures involve only one arm twitching or the body jerking, or complex partial seizures where consciousness is lost and repetitive behaviors occur. Generalized seizures, as the name suggests, involve the entire body. The person loses consciousness, the whole body trembles, and they may have difficulty in appearance. During such episodes, I really have no memory of what I did. Then I stare blankly at the sky for about 10 seconds, just gazing into the air. Epilepsy is a truly frightening disease.
I visited many hospitals trying to find treatment for epilepsy. Meeting a good doctor is really important. Fortunately, I met a good doctor, and I have improved a lot, so there are no issues in social life. You should also visit various clinics and find a good doctor. There are two main ways to treat epilepsy: medication and surgery. Most cases can be controlled with medication. I was fortunate not to need surgery, but I have made great efforts and am overcoming it. Please do not give up. Although epilepsy cannot be completely cured, its symptoms can be greatly reduced, allowing you to live a normal social life. Never give up. Keep taking your medication consistently, and over time, the seizures will decrease and the frequency will start to lessen. Have hope—this is just the beginning.
Antiepileptic drugs have side effects. They are used to treat epilepsy, but all medications have dual aspects. Never give up, and believe that you can overcome it. Do not abandon treatment. Epilepsy can be overcome and treated. Just like me, I hope you can overcome epilepsy.
