How many days should B-type flu symptoms be isolated? Sharing a kindergarten mom's review
It has been three months since our child started kindergarten.
A few days ago, I started feeling weak and had a slight fever.
At first, I thought it was just a simple cold, but then my fever kept rising and went over 38 degrees...
I took him to the hospital just in case, and he was diagnosed positive for type B influenza.
I have a fever, I cry out that my body hurts like muscle pain, and my appetite has also dropped significantly.
Even though I hardly had a cough and my runny nose wasn't severe, I still have the flu...
The incubation period for type B influenza is usually about 1 to 4 days.
It had only been a few days since my child came into contact with a cold patient at kindergarten.
When will isolation for type B influenza be lifted in schools and kindergartens?
My biggest concern was the isolation period for type B influenza.
Our child is a toddler, so stopping attendance is necessary.
At the daycare, children can return only after at least 5 days of isolation and 24 hours after symptoms have disappeared.
Similarly, students can only attend school once their high fever subsides and they are able to resume activities.
It actually took about 5 to 7 days for the child's condition to recover.
But it really spreads faster than I thought.
It seems we need to be more cautious in households with siblings.
This time, experiencing type B influenza for the first time, I realized that
1) It is easy to mistake early symptoms as a common cold because they are vague.
2) Since cold medicine doesn't solve the problem, going to the hospital quickly is the answer.
3) If confirmed, you must give up attending school or going to work for at least 5 days.
The medication was prescribed as an influenza virus suppressant.
Since they are a young child, an antipyretic was also prescribed.
The child's fever subsided and improved after about 2 to 3 days of taking medication, but...
My physical strength has definitely declined, so I plan to stick to a manageable schedule for the time being.
To summarize...
- Type B influenza incubation period: 1 to 4 days
- Symptoms: Mild fever, muscle aches, loss of appetite, less coughing
- Isolation: at least 5 days after high fever subsides / after 24 hours without symptoms before attending school or returning to school
- Infectivity: as strong as type A. Can spread quickly in kindergartens and schools.
- Treatment: hospital prescription + antipyretic + rest
Have others also experienced type B influenza?
It seems that there is quite a bit of B-type flu transmission among kids these days.
When do you all plan to resume attending?
I'm wondering if they were sent immediately after the B-type flu isolation period ended.
