How effective is acupuncture for the back?

Some people get sick again shortly after acupuncture, while others are fine, right? Is it because acupuncture is applied differently to each person? Does the effect of acupuncture appear immediately? Or do we need to wait for a day or two, or even a week, to see gradual improvement?
