(Story) I had surgery within the golden time for cerebral hemorrhage and recovered without any complications.

This is a review of my mother's recovery from brain hemorrhage surgery.

Around 11 a.m., my mom got a call. When I answered, it was someone I didn't know asking if I was her daughter. It was someone I worked with.

My mom was acting strangely, so I thought we should take her to the hospital. She worked at a restaurant, and she couldn't even wear an apron properly and was talking nonsense. I was going to go, but despite my mom's protests, she caught a taxi and went to the hospital herself.

I hurried to Suwon St. Vincent's Hospital.

My mother, who had already suffered from cognitive impairment, came by taxi and tried to explain to me over the phone where she was, but her speech was so slurred that I couldn't understand her at all.

Even now, I feel dizzy thinking about how I ran around here and there, thinking that time was running out.

The mother I met while wandering around was unaware of her own condition. She kept repeating the same words, her speech was slurred, her movements were awkward, and her eyes were unfocused.

I felt it was serious.

I heard later that he had been having symptoms for a week.

He said he thought he had a cold and only took cold medicine and Ssanghwatang.

He said he had a really bad headache and felt like he was feeling unwell.

In the presence of high blood pressure  They say that eating Ssanghwatang can have the side effect of causing a stroke. It was like adding fuel to the fire.

At the reception desk, they asked me about my condition and told me to go to the emergency room.

Wait in the emergency room  You got tested.

The test results showed that it was a cerebral hemorrhage and that surgery was needed immediately.

They called me in, explained the situation, and asked me to sign a consent form. In those situations, they almost always explained the worst-case scenario. I was so scared that I thought my mom was going to die.

And then about two hours later, I went into surgery.

I arrived at the hospital around 11:30 PM and went into surgery around 1 PM.

The golden time is very important for cerebral hemorrhage.

St. Vincent's Hospital has a separate cardiovascular center, so they prepared me for surgery right away.

Golden Time for Brain Hemorrhage

Surgery for cerebral hemorrhage requires surgery within three hours of its onset. Delaying surgery can lead to brain tissue necrosis and subsequent complications. Prompt surgery can restore normal blood flow to the cerebral blood vessels.

The surgery was over sooner than expected, and the professor in charge called me in to explain the procedure. He told me that I had undergone coil embolization through the femoral aorta due to subarachnoid hemorrhage.

What is coil embolization?

It is performed by inserting a catheter through the femoral artery in the leg. This is a procedure to block blood flow by inserting a gold coil into the cerebral aneurysm.

Luckily, my mother wasn't found collapsed, I was able to have the surgery within the golden time, so the post-operative outcome was good.

Before he woke up in the intensive care unit, we all thought he would become disabled, but he woke up perfectly fine without any symptoms, so we were really happy and said it was a blessing from heaven.

I was able to be discharged after spending 5 days in the intensive care unit and 3 days in a general ward.

After that, he followed the method of preventing cerebral hemorrhage to prevent recurrence and is still healthy even after 7 years.

How to prevent cerebral hemorrhage

1. Blood pressure management - High blood pressure is a major cause of cerebral hemorrhage. It is important to keep your blood pressure within the normal range.

2. Healthy eating habits - Maintain a low-salt, low-fat diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables.

3. Maintain a healthy weight - Obesity can increase your risk of brain hemorrhage.

4. Quit smoking - Smoking can be harmful to the blood vessels in the brain and increases the risk of cerebral hemorrhage.

5. Moderate exercise - Regular exercise can lower blood pressure and improve overall health.

Because cerebral hemorrhage has a high risk of recurrence,

It is a disease for which follow-up management is extremely important.

It's a disease that can have a family history, so I shouldn't let my guard down, but I was diagnosed with hyperlipidemia earlier this year.

Even now, I am managing it with healthy eating habits and exercise. I think we need to keep the warning signs in mind and manage them well.

It can happen to anyone

A stroke that could happen at any time.

I think it would be good to learn how to remember stroke symptoms.

F = Face Drooping

Do you have tremors or numbness on one side of your face? When you smile, does your smile appear different on both sides?

A = Arm Weakness (arm paralysis)

Do you feel weak or numb in one arm? Raise both arms. Does one arm droop?

S = Speech Difficulty (language impairment)

Are you having trouble speaking or are you having trouble speaking?

T = Time to call 119 (Please report to 119)

If you experience any of the above symptoms, call 119 immediately. Even if the symptoms disappear, go to the hospital immediately.
