Incheon, which gives 100 million won when having a baby... ranks first nationwide in birth rate increase
Incheon City announced on the 29th that the number of newborns in the Incheon area from January to September this year was 11,326, an 8.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
This is the highest figure among the 17 provinces nationwide, significantly ahead of Seoul (3.5%), Daegu (3.2%), and Chungnam (2.7%), which follow. The national average increase rate of newborns was 0.7%.
The total fertility rate in Incheon increased from 0.67 in the third quarter of last year to 0.8 in the third quarter of this year, showing the second largest increase nationwide after Sejong City.
The number of marriages in Incheon also totaled 9,661 cases from January to September, showing a 12.4% increase compared to the previous year.
The city evaluated that the Incheon-style low birthrate measures, along with continuous population inflow, contributed to an increase in the birth rate.
The city is currently promoting policies such as the '1 Billion Plus i Dream' program, which provides a total of 100 million won to all children born in Incheon until the age of 18, and the 'One Thousand Won Housing' program, which offers daily rent of 1,000 won to newlywed couples.
Director Si-hyun Jung of Incheon City Women's and Family Department said, "Incheon-style birth policies are showing effects," and "We will strive to develop policies to make the city optimal for childbirth and childcare."
