I have been wearing glasses since the second grade of elementary school. As an adult, my vision was -8 in both eyes. Without glasses, the world just looks blurry... I was always one with my glasses or contact lenses. When getting glasses fitted, even after multiple adjustments, the lenses were thick, and my small eyes looked even smaller... In winter, they fogged up with mist... When I tried to lie down and watch TV, it was so cumbersome and uncomfortable...ㅠㅠ I started wearing contact lenses as an adult. When I took off my glasses, my eyes looked bigger, but they were dry and rough...ㅠㅠ If I drank alcohol and just fell asleep...😨

As I became a company employee, I started to seriously consider eye correction surgery. After deciding to undergo the surgery and doing some research around me, I found out that surprisingly many people had LASIK or LASEK surgeries. I heard that LASIK provides good vision immediately after the surgery, while LASEK improves vision gradually but is very painful... so I underwent preliminary examinations.

You need to remove your contact lenses for a certain period before the examination.
For accurate testing, you need to remove soft lenses for 4-5 days, hard lenses/astigmatism soft lenses for 10 days, and Dream Lenses for more than 4 weeks.

Eye drops are applied for retinal examination to dilate the pupils. Since this makes it difficult to drive, read, or perform close-up tasks for about 3-4 hours, self-driving is not recommended during this time.

We perform various tests such as intraocular pressure measurement, automatic refraction testing, fundus photography, and corneal topography.

There are no other difficult or uncomfortable aspects besides the retinal examination. Just keep your eyes open well, haha.

I lived without glasses for about two weeks before going for a check-up. After instilling eye drops for the retinal examination and waiting some time, I understood why driving is not allowed. Because the pupils dilate, a lot of light enters the eyes, causing glare and making it difficult to see close-up text. Therefore, it is recommended to bring sunglasses and a hat even after surgery, and it’s best to have a guardian to drive you. Hehe

I was not suitable for LASIK and was in a condition more appropriate for LASEK, so I decided to undergo LASEK surgery. I heard that LASIK provides good vision immediately after the procedure, so I wanted to choose LASIK...ㅠㅠ Actually, before the examination, I was familiar with the terms themselves, but I didn't really understand the difference. I had surgery sometime before Memorial Day in the past. I was confused about the year of the surgery, so I looked up my emails and found that I had the surgery in 2011 haha. The hospital regularly sends eye care emails, so I was able to confirm it.


On the day of the surgery... I had a final photo taken with my glasses on using a Polaroid. Calm CCM music was playing in the operating room... I lay down on the operating table with a composed mind. The doctor told me that if I just looked carefully at the green laser light on my eye, it would be over quickly... The surgery seemed to have finished within 10 minutes. They put a protective lens on my eye... and I went home wearing sunglasses with my older brother.

I was secretly worried because I heard many reviews from acquaintances around me who had been bedridden due to pain. I naturally experienced initial glare and eye irritation, and I wondered when it would hurt or if it was really painful. I just got through it without any issues. The letters on the monitor are becoming clearer day by day, which is really amazing haha. About a month later, my vision stabilized, and initially, it was 1.5 / 1.2. Since I had poor eyesight, I set my initial target vision at the maximum of 1.0, but the surgery turned out better than expected, and I am now maintaining a stable 1.2 in both eyes.

A slight glare and dry eyes, but I am much more satisfied with the convenience than the discomfort. If I can comfortably live without glasses for 20 years, even if my eyesight deteriorates later, I will just think of it as having enjoyed my youth comfortably haha.
