Are you familiar with Paget's disease of the breast?
Because of the Cashdoc community, our family's embarrassing moments keep getting exposed, but I am writing this hoping it will help others.
It was when I was 28 years old. Suddenly, one side of my breast started to itch. Then, a little discharge began to seep from the nipple. It felt just like eczema. Since it was my breast, I didn't want to go to the hospital for treatment, so I just applied eczema ointment at home. Silly me~~~
However, the condition did not improve, and the discharge stuck to the bra, causing the wound to worsen without healing. Eventually, symptoms appeared, and I sought medical help after two months. When the doctor saw the lesion and recommended a biopsy, I was so shocked I can't even describe it. The week it took to get the results felt like an eternity. The journey to hear the test results seemed long and distant. The doctor's first words were, "You need to go to a large university hospital." The first thing he said was, "It's breast cancer." I was only 28 years old, and I couldn't believe I had breast cancer. I don't have any family history either. Ultimately, after re-biopsy at a university hospital, I was diagnosed with Paget's disease, a rare type of breast cancer, and it was revealed that there was a lot of microcalcification distributed throughout the breast, leading to a devastating diagnosis that I needed a total mastectomy.
I used to think that a lump in the breast was the typical symptom of breast cancer, and my ignorance seemed to have worsened the illness, making me feel very foolish.
Moreover, since I am young and in a period of vigorous hormone secretion, the metastasis could be rapid, so surgery needed to be done immediately. After the surgery, six rounds of chemotherapy were required.
It was difficult to accept at first, but with my husband's persuasion and encouragement, I decided to undergo surgery. During chemotherapy, I had no choice but to shave my head due to hair loss. Fortunately, thanks to my husband's dedicated care, I was able to recover faster than expected, and after treatment, I underwent breast reconstruction surgery. No one who hasn't experienced it can truly understand how much of a scar a mastectomy is for a woman. I am now in my mid-40s. Because of the risk of recurrence, I am making a tremendous effort to stay vigilant.
The secret to my healthy, relapse-free life so far is eating in moderation and exercising. I stick to a diet mainly consisting of raw vegetables and low-fat foods. And I never forget to undergo regular check-ups consistently.
The fact that cancer is not a disease that only runs in families, and that breast cancer is not just the type of breast cancer we know.
If you discover even one symptom that you did not have before, do not hesitate and go to the hospital.
Even after 15 years, I am living happily, raising my two sons very healthily.
No one who sees me believes that I was a cancer patient.
Don't forget that health is maintained when you are healthy.
Thank you for reading this lengthy, unorganized message, and I hope it will be helpful to women.
