A review of my surgery for ovarian teratoma at the gynecology department
*Purpose of surgery: Removal of ovarian cyst (6cm)
*Hospital stay: 3 nights and 4 days
Cost: 1.1 to 1.5 million won (about 1 million won reimbursed through actual expenses, insurance premium increased by about 20,000 won immediately after claiming..^_ㅠ)
*Before hospitalization:
Has anyone here undergone surgery for ovarian teratoma?
I am 28 years old, and I went along with my friend to her prenatal checkup, and I thought, "Why not get tested myself too?" so I had a test done.
I have no sexual experience, so I thought my uterus would be clean, but I actually have a tumor called ovarian cyst.
This mostly occurs in young women in their 30s, so I was very shocked to find out I also have this tumor. The tumor is about 6cm, so during follow-up exams, I could wait a bit, but since the tumor isn't small, it's better to remove it quickly. After hearing the doctor's advice, I decided to go ahead with the surgery. ㅠㅠ
*After hospitalization:
When you are hospitalized, you must fast from 8 hours before surgery. That's when I really wanted to drink an iced Americano...
They wouldn't even let me drink water. When my mouth was completely dry, my mother would gently wet my lips with water beside meㅠㅠ
And when it was time for surgery, I went into the operating room, and it was very cold and scary.
But after receiving the anesthesia injection and waking up, I found myself having completed the surgery and lying in my hospital room. The anesthesia injection is really amazing and fascinating..!! And as time passed and the anesthesia gradually wore off, my lower abdomen started to become extremely, extremely, extremely, extremely painful ㅠㅠ !!!!
My stomach was extremely bloated with gas, and since I had undergone open surgery, my abdomen was painfully stretched as if it would tear.
I couldn't move at all, but the nurse told me to toss and turn here and there, and once I felt a little better, to get up and move around while passing a lot of gas... It was really painful and felt like hell.
Post-surgery:
This is the first meal after surgery, a light rice porridge. I ate hastily because I was hungry... ㅠㅠ
I think I received about two doses of pain relief injections because my stomach was hurting so much after the surgery. When I was discharged, the doctor showed me a picture of the teratoma he removed from my abdomen, and it was really gross... It looked like something tooth-shaped wrapped around hair in a coil..?
Why did something like that form inside my stomach?ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
I heard that the surgery went well and was told to visit again in two weeks, so I paid the surgery fee and left.
I heard from my friends that Seoul Women's Hospital is good, so I went there. The medical staff treated me calmly and kindly, so I was able to feel somewhat comfortable and leave. Also, I have come to think that I should visit the obstetrics and gynecology department regularly, just like the dentist!
