If you lose weight and develop bruises without hitting anything hard, or if you see bruises on your arms and legs even when you're still, this could be a sign of a health problem.

. Also, if you have nosebleeds with bruises or small bleeding that does not stop easily, you should suspect 'immune thrombocytopenia'.

The biggest side effect of losing a lot of weight in a short period of time is that it can cause immune system problems.

Our body's adipose tissue is home to various immune cells, including macrophages, which manage chronic inflammation. Furthermore, adipose tissue participates in the endocrine system through various hormones, helping maintain homeostasis. If you continue to lose fat while maintaining an imbalance in nutrition and rest, such as through rapid dieting, eating less and exercising more, your immune system will become compromised. This dysfunctional immune system can overreact by sending out incorrect signals, triggering an autoimmune disease called "immune thrombocytopenia," which attacks the body.

Platelets are blood cells that help blood clot properly. However, when an autoimmune reaction destroys platelets and reduces their number, a condition called "immune thrombocytopenia" is diagnosed. A normal platelet count is between 150,000 and 450,000/uL, but those with immune thrombocytopenia have numbers below 100,000/uL. A low platelet count can cause frequent red or purple bruising or extreme fatigue, making movement difficult. Bleeding can also manifest as persistent bleeding, blood in the urine or stool, or, in women, a sudden increase in menstrual flow. Bleeding in the retina can cause vision problems. Bleeding inside the skull, in particular, can lead to serious complications, requiring special attention.

Immune thrombocytopenia can occur at any age. In children, acute cases often resolve spontaneously without specific treatment. However, in adults, the condition often persists for more than six months, necessitating long-term treatment. Immune thrombocytopenia is initially treated with medication, including steroids and immunosuppressants.

This method suppresses immune function, preventing platelet destruction and stimulating bone marrow production. If steroid therapy fails or drug-related complications occur, surgical splenectomy is performed. This procedure removes the spleen, where platelets are primarily destroyed, to prevent thrombocytopenia. Because it's performed laparoscopically, rather than incisionally, it has minimal side effects and requires a short hospital stay.

Short-term diet is closely related to immunity.

If you say you get bruises after losing weight

I need to go to the hospital and get examined first.
