There's a popular saying that if a fish bone gets stuck in your throat while eating, swallowing a bowl of rice will help it go down. However, this claim is completely unfounded and can be dangerous.
While a very lightly embedded foreign body can be dislodged with liquids like water, solid foods can embed it further. Avoid swallowing plain rice with a bone embedded, even if it's initially slightly embedded, as the subsequent rice can cause the bone to become more deeply embedded.
It is known that when a foreign body such as a fish bone gets stuck in the throat, inflammation occurs in about 4% of adults and 7% of children, or perforation or rupture of the pharynx or esophageal wall occurs. Experts explain that this is caused by incorrect responses such as eating plain rice to force the bone down.
Foreign bodies that don't pass out on their own must be removed at a hospital. If they're lodged in the visible tonsils, they can be removed with forceps. If they're lodged in the pharynx, the lower part of the tonsils, they're not visible and must be removed with an endoscope.
If a foreign body becomes lodged in the esophagus, located below the pharynx, the chest will feel more stinging than the throat. This pain can be overlooked and left untreated, potentially leading to complications. The farther down the esophagus a foreign body becomes lodged, the less likely it is to experience pain. This is because the esophagus's sensitivity decreases as it approaches the stomach. Many people don't distinguish the pain caused by a bone thorn from heartburn.
If a thorn is left untreated and left untreated, it will gradually move deeper into the esophagus due to peristalsis. If this condition persists for about a week, a perforation of the esophagus can occur. If tests show that the perforation is small and does not form an abscess, treatment involves fasting and antibiotics.

In the past, the elders told me to eat a lot of plain rice.
They say they're going down... This is dangerous.
Inflammation can also occur due to thorns.
I used to live at the end of the mackerel fishing village.
I went to an ENT clinic and had it removed.
