Especially on an empty stomach in the morning, drinking lukewarm water at around 30 degrees Celsius is advised. Drinking cold water suddenly upon waking can excessively stimulate the autonomic nervous system, potentially causing arrhythmias or other heart issues. Additionally, the body expends unnecessary energy to raise the lowered body temperature caused by cold water. Elderly and frail individuals have a lower basal metabolic rate, so drinking cold water can lower their body temperature and reduce gastric blood flow, possibly decreasing digestive enzyme secretion. It is better to drink warm water rather than cold.
Foot bath
Foot baths also promote blood circulation and increase metabolic rate. Metabolism refers to all the processes occurring in the body that utilize the nutrients ingested, including burning fat and generating energy. In other words, raising body temperature through foot baths to improve blood circulation also helps prevent obesity. When body temperature rises by 1 degree, biochemical reactions in the body increase by about 10%, making metabolism more active, and good blood circulation accelerates the breakdown of body fat. Foot baths also help alleviate stress by suppressing the activation of the sympathetic nervous system, which is triggered when stressed. When the sympathetic nervous system is suppressed, the brain releases endorphins that reduce pain, making discomfort less noticeable.
