Broadcaster Wang Jong-geun (70) revealed his secret to maintaining vascular health.

 

On the 28th, Wang Jong-geun and Kim Mi-sook appeared on MBN's "Pharmacist." The couple, who are dedicated to maintaining their vascular health, drank a glass of lukewarm water each morning. They also brought a blood sugar meter to check their blood sugar levels, suggesting they should start by checking their blood sugar levels. Regarding their dedication to maintaining their health, Kim Mi-sook said, "My mother is currently suffering from dementia, but she actually had a minor stroke about five years ago. She has three conditions: hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes." Wang Jong-geun responded, "That's why we regret that when my mother-in-law had a stroke, we should have been diagnosed with a vascular problem and started managing it. We overlooked that, and now we regret it." He continued, "Since then, we've realized that vascular disease shouldn't be trivialized, and we've started taking better care of our health." Wang Jong-geun and Kim Mi-sook also shared a video of themselves enjoying a foot bath, which is good for blood circulation. Thanks to this lifestyle habit, the couple received a normal diagnosis in their vascular health test. We learned more about the health benefits of drinking lukewarm water on an empty stomach and foot baths.

◇Drink water on an empty stomach

 

  Drinking a glass of water in the morning increases the volume of blood and lymph, helping to eliminate waste from the body. While sleeping, lack of fluid intake can lead to dehydration and poor blood circulation. To prevent this, drink water first thing in the morning. It's especially recommended to drink lukewarm water (around 30 degrees Celsius) on an empty stomach. Sudden gulps of cold water upon waking can overstimulate the autonomic nervous system, potentially leading to cardiac abnormalities such as arrhythmia. Furthermore, the body expends unnecessary energy trying to normalize its body temperature after the cold. Elderly and frail individuals, in particular, have lower basal metabolic rates. Drinking cold water can lower body temperature and reduce blood flow in the stomach, potentially leading to reduced digestive juice production. Therefore, it's better to drink warm water than cold.

 

◇Foot bath

 

Foot baths also promote blood circulation, speeding up metabolism. Metabolism is the body's ability to utilize ingested nutrients, burning fat and generating energy. In other words, foot baths, which raise body temperature and promote blood circulation, can also help prevent obesity. A one-degree increase in body temperature increases biochemical reactions by about 10%, boosting metabolism. Improved blood circulation accelerates fat breakdown. Foot baths also relieve stress. This is because they suppress the sympathetic nervous system, which is activated during stress. When the sympathetic nervous system is suppressed, the brain releases pain-relieving endorphins, reducing the sensation of pain.

    전 공복에 물은 매일 마시고 있긴 한데요. 제가 아직 젊어서 그런 걸까요? 저는 딱히 큰 효과를 모르겠는데요. 더 나이가 되면 효과가 느껴질 수도 있겠네요.
    칠십대에도 건강하다는 것은 정말 축복입니다. 사진 속 주인공도 칠 십대로 보이긴 하지만 건강해 보이긴 하네요. 요즘은 건강 관리에 모두가 다 관심을 갖고 신경을 쓰는 것 같아요. 또한 공복에 물 마시기 뿐 아니라 족욕도 좋다고 나와있는데, 족욕이 혈액순환이 잘 되게끔 만들어줘서 그런가 보네요. 족욕기도 한때 굉장히 유행했던 걸로 기억하는데요. 사실 족욕기가 없어도 간편하게 할 수 있는 게 족욕이죠. 큰 대야와 뜨거운 물만 있어도 오케이니까요 ㅎㅎ
