How to recover quickly from hand-foot-and-mouth disease

Recently, my child contracted hand-foot-and-mouth disease and suffered for about a week. Along with stomatitis, I will share some tips about summer hand-foot-and-mouth disease.

What is hand-foot-and-mouth disease?

Hand, foot, and mouth disease symptoms

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a condition that mainly affects children during the summer, and it is transmitted by viruses such as enteroviruses, rotaviruses, and adenoviruses.

Peak occurrence period: May to August, target population during peak period

Primarily occurs in infants and young children under the age of five.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease symptoms

The initial symptoms of hand-foot-and-mouth disease typically start with a fever (lasting 24 to 48 hours), loss of appetite, sore throat, and fatigue.

1 to 2 days after the onset of fever, blisters mainly appear on the tongue, gums, inside of the cheeks, and the roof of the mouth.

As the term "hand-foot-mouth disease" suggests, small blisters appear on the mouth, hands, and feet.

Blisters form on the tongue, mucous membranes of the cheeks, oropharynx, palate, gums, and lips, leading to ulcer formation.

Blistering rash appears on the hands and feet.

Additionally, in cases similar to stomatitis, when small blisters develop in the mouth and pain prevents swallowing saliva,

The main symptoms are refusal to eat due to loss of appetite and dehydration.

Symptoms begin to appear, and during the first 2-3 days, they worsen, with the child having difficulty eating and developing a fever. After 3-4 days, symptoms start to improve, and most recover within a week.

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease transmission and incubation period

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease can be transmitted through human respiratory secretions, stool, vomit, and other bodily fluids.

It is transmitted to others through hands contaminated with the infected person's feces.

Transmission occurs through direct contact with respiratory secretions such as nasal and throat discharges, blister exudate, or saliva of infected individuals.

Since water play areas are places where infections can easily occur and human-to-human transmission is strong

It is easy to get infected at institutions where children are active, such as daycare centers, kindergartens, and cultural centers.

Viruses are very powerful, but they are not permanently active.

When the virus invades the body and enters the incubation period, symptoms may not appear for about 1 to 3 days.

Treatment and medication for hand-foot-and-mouth disease

Therefore, the treatment for hand-foot-mouth disease is symptomatic therapy aimed at alleviating symptoms, and most patients recover after 7 to 10 days.

It recovers naturally.

You can use antipyretic and analgesic medication to relieve your child's fever and pain.

Adequate nutritional supply

When a child has hand-foot-and-mouth disease, they may refuse to eat due to blisters in their mouth.

When you're sick, it's most important to eat well and rest properly.

Since I can't eat well, this part is the most difficult problem.

In the case of symptomatic treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease/stomatitis

Especially, eating well helps with faster recovery.

Therefore, easy-to-swallow, soft foods.

You need to provide it and encourage regular consumption.

I like soft foods such as porridge and steamed eggs that are easy to swallow.

However, because there are blisters on the neck, cool foods

You may prefer cold things like refreshing drinks, ice cream, or ice, as holding cold items in your mouth can also help relieve pain.

When someone strongly refuses to eat, it's better than not feeding them at all.

It's best to give the child their favorite juice or drink to recharge.

They say it's healed.
