Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Director: "Simultaneous COVID-19 and flu vaccinations will begin in October"

Ji-Young Mi, the head of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, stated on the 20th that "In October, we plan to administer COVID-19 vaccines simultaneously with the flu vaccine to increase the vaccination rate."

Chief Ji stated at the full meeting of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee that "We have secured 7.55 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine." Chief Ji also mentioned, "We are considering approximately 6.33 million high-risk individuals," and announced that "the budget allocated for this is 429 billion won."

When 국민의힘 의원 백종헌 pointed out that many vaccines are being discarded due to poor management, the director replied, "We have been continuously making efforts to reduce the amount of waste," and "We will continue to manage well and monitor the supply and demand situation."

According to Assemblyman Baek, from 2021 to August of this year, a total of 216.79 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, accounting for 28.6%, were discarded. Reasons included expiration of the effective period (61.6 million doses), unused vaccines due to completion of vaccination (290,000 doses), and vaccine temperature deviations and container damage (40,000 doses).
