Diagnosis of abnormal bleeding and adenomyosis - Review of treatment at Suwon Eden Med Hospital

I visited EdenMed Hospital due to abnormal bleeding and found out it was a symptom of adenomyosis.

Sharing my experience about uterine adenomyosis, which can affect any woman, including causes and symptoms other than abnormal bleeding that you might find helpful.

I didn't have any particular symptoms before my period, but starting on the morning of the day my period began, I started feeling dizzy, and I experienced dizziness and body aches for three days. My stomach started hurting, and normally, a single painkiller would suffice, but the pain was so severe that even painkillers had little effect. The pain wasn't just in my lower abdomen but also felt like my pelvis was being pinched. The pelvic pain was intense as well. The amount of menstrual flow was not very heavy, and I expected it to end in about five days, but the flow was heavy and continued for seven days, only stopping on the eighth day.

This time it was strange and I just passed it, but after a week, bleeding suddenly started. It looked like the first day of my period, so I thought I was having it again, but it stopped after a few hours.

I thought it was abnormal bleeding, so I visited Suwon Eden Med Hospital Women's Hospital.

It is the hospital I originally attended, and it is a hospital where you can receive quick treatment without an appointment thanks to a systematic system.

When I told the attending doctor about the symptoms, he said that after a week, it might be difficult to see clearly with the endoscopy, but since there was some bleeding, he suggested we take a look. Although the vaginal endoscopy didn't provide a completely clear view of the inside, he said it looked clean, so I was reassured and left. However, when he showed me the chart, he mentioned that the endometrial lining had become much thicker. There is also a small uterine fibroid, which is still 19.9mm, so he said it is suspicious and recommended follow-up in six months. He mentioned that a diagnosis would be confirmed if it reaches 20mm.

Suspected cases cannot be confirmed and are considered probable at the estimation stage. I think of it as a preliminary stage.

What is adenomyosis?

IMG_5458.jpeg

Abnormal proliferation of endometrial tissue leading to an enlarged uterus. Overall, the uterus enlarges and can become similar in size to a pregnant uterus.

☝️ Causes of adenomyosis

The exact cause of adenomyosis has not been clearly identified to date. There are two hypotheses regarding its cause: the first suggests that endometrial tissue infiltrates into the myometrium, and the second proposes that the tissue of the myometrium undergoes changes to become similar to endometrial tissue.

☝️Symptoms of adenomyosis

✔️Heavy menstruation / Abnormal bleeding

In cases of adenomyosis, changes in female hormones cause alterations in the endometrium and myometrium, leading to increased bleeding and the possibility of irregular bleeding.

Anemia / Dizziness

Heavy menstrual bleeding and severe abnormal bleeding can lead to anemia and dizziness.

Menstrual cramps / Fatigue

Proliferation of nerve fibers in the muscular layer, pelvic pain due to compression from adenomyosis, and complaints of weakness caused by chronic fatigue

✔️Infertility in women of reproductive age

Blood clots in the endometrium can interfere with implantation, potentially leading to infertility.

✔️ Major organ compression symptoms

Pressing the bladder causes symptoms of urination disorders such as frequent urination, nocturia, and urinary incontinence.

•Symptoms of constipation pressing on the rectum, feeling of incomplete evacuation, and pain during bowel movements

Pressing on the pelvic nerves causes pelvic pain and lower back pain.

Pressing on the blood vessels within the pelvis can cause varicose veins or swelling in the legs.

Apart from infertility, I experienced symptoms like abnormal bleeding all at once.

Symptoms of abnormal bleeding may be temporary.

It could be symptoms of various uterine diseases.

I think this is a part that should be given attention.

I think I would have overlooked it and not visited the hospital if it hadn't been for abnormal bleeding. It seems that women sometimes develop health issues this way. I hope you develop the habit of paying close attention to even minor symptoms to protect your uterine health.
