A tragic incident occurred in China where a 3-year-old grandson drowned while the grandfather was engrossed in social networking services (SNS) on his mobile phone.

According to Daily Star on August 31, this incident occurred in Fujian Province, China, on the 28th of last month.

Looking at the closed-circuit (CC) TV footage, the 3-year-old boy playing in the yard at the time told his grandfather to go to the river near the house to wash his toys.

However, the grandfather was apparently watching Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, on his mobile phone, and did not respond, seemingly not hearing his grandson's words.

Son suggested they go back to the river together and clean the toys, but the grandfather did not respond.

The grandfather briefly lifted his head a moment later. Although the grandfather couldn't see his grandson, it was believed that there was nothing wrong, so he refocused on his cellphone.

In the end, the grandson went to the river alone, fell into the water, and tragically drowned.

The boy's mother was angry and said, "My father-in-law said he couldn't hear his grandson calling him."
