British woman who received a manicure detected 'kidney disease'; nail 'this symptom' was a warning signal

A story has been revealed about a woman in her 30s in the UK who discovered a kidney disease while getting a manicure.

On the 24th (local time), according to foreign media such as The Sun, Lewis Weikmark (34) visited a hospital after a nail salon employee suggested it upon discovering marks on his nails. During his hospital visit, Lewis Weikmark was surprisingly diagnosed with a kidney disease. He said, "The test results showed that my blood pressure was high and my kidney function had sharply declined," and "My heart rate was close to cardiac arrest." He further stated, "After being diagnosed with kidney disease, I took medication to lower my blood pressure." Lewis Weikmark mentioned, "I didn't notice any symptoms in my usual state, and if I hadn't gone to the hospital when the nail salon employee advised me, it could have worsened even more." It is reported that he is currently undergoing dialysis and is waiting for a transplant.

If kidney function is actually poor, abnormal signs may appear on nails or toenails, such as those seen in Lewis Wiekmark. These include discoloration or changes in texture and shape. When kidney function declines, it becomes difficult to remove waste products from blood components, leading to the accumulation of these substances in the bloodstream, which causes changes in the nails and toenails. When melanocytes in the skin transform into cancer cells, black vertical lines appear, and the bruise gradually enlarges, causing the entire toenail to turn black.
