"50% chance of death" Kim Jung-hwa's husband’s initial symptoms when diagnosed with brain cancer

Brain cancer is quite unfamiliar.

Actor Kim Jung-hwa's spouse was also diagnosed early, and the prognosis is said to be good.

It's a great relief.

If suddenly an unexplained headache begins and continues for a week...

I really need to go to the hospital.

I also often experience frequent headaches...

If medication doesn't easily alleviate the symptoms... and the unexplained headaches continue persistently...

It's important to go to the hospital and get tested early.

Actress Kim Jung-hwa shared about her husband, CCM singer Yoo Eun-sung's health condition.

On the 9th, Kim Jung-hwa and Yoo Eun-sung, a married couple, appeared on KBS2's 'Gag Concert'.

Kim Jung-hwa said, "Actually, my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year. Recently, tumors were also found in two other places. I wish he would take care of himself and rest, but I can't stop him. That's my concern."

Yoo Eun-sung calmly said, "How you live is more important than when you die. Despite this appearance, I want to show that I can live healthily and happily with my wife and children for a long time."

Earlier, Kim Jung-hwa also shared her husband's battle with illness on her Instagram and on SBS's 'Same Bed, Different Dreams - You Are My Destiny'.

The exact name of the disease Eunseong Yoo is suffering from is 'low-grade neurocytoma.' It is a type of brain tumor, specifically a form of brain cancer.

Brain tumors are broadly divided into two categories. Intracranial tumors originate in the brain parenchyma, which performs the functional activities of the brain, while extracranial tumors develop in tissues outside the brain parenchyma, such as the meninges and pituitary gland. Generally, when referring to brain tumors, intracranial tumors are meant.

Most brain tumors originate from neuroglial cells rather than neurons. These cells support and nourish neurons structurally and functionally.

Tumors that develop in neuroglial cells are called gliomas.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies neuroglial tumors into four grades, from Grade 1 to Grade 4. Grade 1 neuroglial tumors usually grow slowly and are mostly classified as benign, requiring only surgical removal. Grade 2 and Grade 3 neuroglial tumors grow more rapidly, necessitating a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Grade 4 neuroglial tumors are the most aggressive type, corresponding to glioblastoma.

Grades 1 and 2 are grouped together as low-grade neuroglial tumors, while grades 3 and 4 are classified as high-grade neuroglial tumors.

Eunseong Yoo was diagnosed with a low-grade neuroepithelial tumor in 2022. At that time, Eunseong Yoo experienced sudden-onset headaches that did not go away for a week, so out of concern, she underwent a comprehensive health check-up. Within just a few days, she received a phone call from the hospital instructing her to visit as soon as possible. As a result, she was diagnosed with a low-grade neuroepithelial tumor.

The doctor explained about low-grade neuroepithelial tumors, saying, "If operated on, over 90% will result in disability, and 50% may lead to death." Fortunately, Yoo Eun-seong was advised that immediate surgery was not necessary.

Low-grade neuroepithelial tumors have tumor cell pockets that grow slowly and cannot be detected even after tumor removal surgery. Eventually, they often recur within two years, develop into malignant tumors, and result in death within two years.
