If you have thickened skin on your heels, you might have thought it was just calluses and have touched or peeled it off at least once. However, it turns out that most of the keratinized skin we thought was calluses is actually not calluses at all.
Dermatologist Dr. Ham Ik-byeong appeared on the YouTube channel 'Medical Channel After Rain' and revealed that most people with calluses on their heels are actually patients with athlete's foot, which caused quite a shock.
There is no one who has toenail fungus from the beginning.
According to Mr. Ham, the athlete's foot fungus is a type of mold that lives on keratin and feeds on human keratin. He explained that infection with this fungus causes athlete's foot, and that women are especially prone to it because they often wear stockings.
He said, "There are three types of athlete's foot: interdigital type that occurs between the toes, vesicular type with blisters, and keratotic type that appears on the heels." He then added, "When the calluses on the heels become thickened, it should be considered athlete's foot. People often don't realize it's athlete's foot because there is no itching, but in fact, nine out of ten cases are athlete's foot," surprising the viewers.
Regarding the treatment method for athlete's foot, a disease that can affect anyone regardless of age or gender, it was stated, "Once you get athlete's foot, you need to apply medication twice a day for more than six months. Then, it will be 100% cured."
