Causes and symptoms of styes: 3 treatments for quick recovery

Styes are a common condition caused by bacterial infection of the oil glands in the eyelids.

In this article, we will look at the causes of styes and the early symptoms that appear, as well as introduce ways to recover quickly. In particular, we will explore effective methods to treat styes and reduce discomfort, such as warm compresses, maintaining cleanliness, and appropriate medication use.

Is it early September? I also posted a concern about seeing yellow in my eyes.

The very next day, I went to the ophthalmology clinic...

Since early September, it has been diagnosed as central serous chorioretinopathy, a condition where fluid accumulates in the retina. There is no special medication for this.

The only thing I could prescribe was artificial tears.

However, the most important treatment for central serous chorioretinopathy is "stress."

After the first consultation, the treatment period is 4 weeks. It is absolutely not possible to cure central serous chorioretinopathy within 4 weeks.

This week is the fourth week, so it was scheduled for Friday... I was lying down to sleep on the evening of September 25th, but...

My eyes are also a bit sore, and I started experiencing aching pain up to my left cheekbone.

Oh no! I realized this morning that I couldn't open my eyes. It turns out I have a stye on my left eye.

Styes in the eyes tend to occur when the eyes are frequently touched, exposed to unclean environments, or when the immune system is weakened.

Lately, I have been feeling that my immune system is quite weakened, and it turns out that the cause of styes in the eyes is also closely related to immune strength.

Why do styes in the eyes occur?

1️⃣ Bacterial infection

Styes can occur mainly when bacteria invade small skin wounds or pores, causing an inflammatory response. Especially when bacteria infect damaged areas of the skin, swelling around the skin can develop along with inflammation, leading to a stye. Bacterial infection worsens the condition of the skin and triggers inflammation, making the stye appear larger and more red. Additionally, bacterial infection can cause pain or itching, and if left untreated, the inflammation can worsen. Therefore, it is important to keep skin wounds or areas with pores clean and to treat them properly to prevent bacterial infection.

2️⃣ Contaminated hands

Styes can mainly occur due to small skin wounds or contaminated pores caused by dirty hands. Hands are exposed to various substances in daily life, especially dust, soil, bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants. If you touch your skin with contaminated hands or touch your face without washing your hands with soap, contaminants can enter small skin wounds or pores, causing inflammation and leading to a stye. Therefore, it is important to wash your hands thoroughly and ensure they are free of contaminants before touching your skin.

3. Decreased immunity

A decrease in immunity can act as a cause of hordeolum (stye) occurrence. When immunity weakens, the skin's natural defense functions are compromised, increasing the likelihood of exposure to pathogens such as bacteria or viruses. Therefore, people with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to bacteria or foreign substances entering the skin and causing inflammation, which can lead to a hordeolum. In particular, individuals with low immunity have reduced resistance to bacteria that cause hordeolum, so caution is necessary. To strengthen immunity, it is important to maintain a balanced diet, get enough sleep, and manage stress. Additionally, consuming healthy foods rich in vitamins and minerals and engaging in regular exercise to improve physical strength can be helpful.

What are the symptoms of a stye in the eye?

1️⃣ Eyelid is swollen

One of the early symptoms of a stye is the beginning of swelling in the eyelid.

A unpleasant tingling sensation begins. And when I open and close my eyes, it feels a bit uncomfortable, perhaps because of the slight swelling. It seems like the itching starts at the same time as the swelling.

If a stye on the eye is detected in the early stages, early treatment is possible, and it won't swell up further, so seeing a doctor immediately is the quickest way to treat it.

2️⃣ Eye pain and cheekbone pain also occur

One of the early symptoms of a stye can include pain.

When a stye occurs, the accumulated secretions in the eyelid irritate the eye, causing pain, redness, and making blinking comfortable.

Persistent unpleasant pain is a concern.

The vision in the eyes also becomes slightly blurry.

3️⃣ I have eye redness.

One of the early symptoms of a stye is redness.

A stye occurs when secretions accumulated in the eyelid lead to inflammation due to inadequate eye disinfection. In such cases, blood vessels around the eyelid can dilate, causing redness. You can also see the area around the eyes become somewhat swollen and red. It's very difficult to open your eyes in the morning.

How to treat a stye in the eye?

1️⃣ Ophthalmology prescription (4 times a day)

Inflammatory eye disease treatment: It is recommended to shake the flu paste before use.

Levofloxacin for the treatment of extensive infectious eye diseases

Complex sinusitis. No antibiotics prescribed: Neodex ointment (slightly uncomfortable vision each time I apply).

2️⃣ Hot compress therapy

The most effective method is a warm hot pack.

Place a cloth or towel soaked in warm water on the stye area for 5 to 10 minutes, then reheat the towel when it cools and repeat.

If you perform this process about 4 to 5 times a day, it is said to help reduce inflammation and promote abscess drainage.

3️⃣ Proper hand washing

They say that touching your eyes repeatedly is more harmful, so you should always wash your hands first before touching them.

I'll also share how to wash your hands.
