While looking for a dentist for scaling and a national checkup, I went to a place recommended by a friend that promised no unnecessary treatments. This was my first visit to a dentist after moving to a new area. I made an appointment through Naver, and after a short wait in the waiting room, I was called into the exam room. After a brief wait in the dental chair, a nurse or dental hygienist took several photos of my teeth, and then the attending doctor came in, quickly checked me, and told me there was nothing wrong and to go ahead with the scaling. Another dental hygienist then came in and quickly performed the scaling. I had a few questions about the photos taken, how to manage my wisdom teeth which I was worried about at the time, and how to use dental floss properly, and she kindly explained everything to me. It seems they did a great job, as my teeth were all fine, and I received quick and efficient care. I’m satisfied at the moment and plan to return for a follow-up visit.

I do not recommend Chawon Dental Clinic. The following details are all based on my personal experience during my treatment. During the consultation, I was informed that my braces would be completed in 24 months, but despite attending every month without fail, it took an additional 8 months. It was confusing that I was charged the same monthly fee for routine exams as well. There was no special consideration for the situation where tooth extractions were not done in one go, which required me to revisit. (They gave a one-month discount because of the extraction issue.) I was also disappointed when they said that a failed extraction was not considered a medical accident. They shook my teeth several times, and when it didn't come out, they stopped and I had to take medication, which makes me wonder if that was not a big deal. At that time, I experienced significant fear and pain from the failed extraction, along with headaches. After receiving an apology due to the unkind response, the attitude of the dental hygienist, who also worked at the front desk, did not improve much, and the doctor did not seem to have a strong willingness to respect the patient and resolve problems. Whenever I communicated my discomfort, I felt a more defensive attitude than empathy or explanation, and I felt a lack of communication aimed at solving the patient's discomfort together. In particular, after the completion of my braces, I continuously faced the problem of my tongue getting stuck due to the fixed retainer, and it was rough enough to scratch if I touched it. Eventually, I was diagnosed with glossitis, but there was no action taken like reattachment or afterservice, just repeating the same content. Even in the process of getting a refund for the fixed retainer, there were inconsistencies regarding the amount compared to the initial agreement, and I was presented with a refund contract that included confusing clauses like restrictions on writing reviews, which led me to give up on getting a refund. Overall, I felt that there was a lack of respect for the patient and sufficient explanations. Also, since it was in Yeouido, the fact that I had to travel two hours back and forth due to the clinic moving was disappointing. It’s common for orthodontic clinics to move nearby, so that was a bit disappointing. This text is a sharing of my personal treatment experience, and I really regret not looking at reviews after only watching YouTube videos. I hope this serves as a reference for anyone considering teeth braces.
