To maintain a healthy life, you need to exercise regularly. Aerobic exercise and strength training are both good choices.
You have to. It's not always easy to stick to a regular exercise routine, but once you've decided to start, you often wonder where to start. Cardio or strength training: which should you prioritize?

Cardio vs. Strength... If I had to choose one, which would it be?

On Comedy.com's YouTube channel "Geunama," hosted by Nurse Pyo In-bong, Professor Kim Seon-wook of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, pharmacist Min Jae-won, and trainer Arnold Hong discussed aerobic exercise and strength training. The three experts were asked which option would be better, given the choice between aerobic exercise and strength training.

Pharmacist Min Jae-won, who has extensive experience exercising, recommended strength training. "In my experience, I've found that strength training is more effective the more I exercise," he said. "Strength training alone can help you lose weight and build muscle."

Trainer Arnold Hong also said, "I think the more developed a country becomes, the more muscle training it does." He added, "Having more muscle can help prevent injuries like broken bones from falling in the winter." Unlike the two experts, Professor Kim Seon-wook emphasized the importance of aerobic exercise. He explained, "Aerobic exercise improves cardiopulmonary endurance and can reduce body fat and visceral fat."

What kind of exercise should people in their 40s to 60s with high body fat percentage start with?

But for middle-aged and older people, the story is different. If people in their 40s to 60s with high body fat percentages had to choose one exercise method, the expert's answer would be different from that of a normal person.

Trainer Arnold Hong, who previously recommended starting with strength training, recommended aerobic exercise, saying, “If you have a lot of body fat, the inflammatory response can become more severe, so strength training can worsen swelling.”

Pharmacist Min explained that building muscle is especially important for middle-aged and older people. .

Pharmacist Min said, “As you get older, you need to do more strength training. If you have a condition like dementia that requires good blood circulation, aerobic exercise can help, but strength training is also important.”

Professor Kim, who emphasized the importance of aerobic exercise, suggested that middle-aged and older individuals with high body fat percentages should focus on strength training. He stated, "Strength training can burn more calories than aerobic exercise," and, "For those who are overweight, prolonged exercise can have short-term negative effects on cardiovascular function."

The three experts also shared a common opinion: rather than sticking to a specific exercise method, it's important to set appropriate exercise goals based on your health and physical condition. It's also important to be mindful of the potential negative consequences of overexerting yourself.

============

Depending on your age, you should exercise

It's changing

Strength training is essential for those over 40.

Edema from strength training?

I don't know about this case, so if that's the case, I recommend aerobic exercise.
