People who don't usually exercise get out of breath just by climbing subway stairs or chasing after a departing bus. Even if it's difficult, occasionally engaging in such physical activities can be helpful.
Research has shown that engaging in high-intensity physical activities such as climbing stairs or running after a bus for just 3 to 4 minutes daily can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, this applies only to women.
A research team at the University of Sydney in Australia analyzed data from 81,052 middle-aged individuals registered with the UK Biobank. Participants in the Biobank study wore devices that measured their physical activity for seven days. Among them, 22,368 people reported not engaging in regular exercise or only walking about once a week. Their heart health was monitored over approximately 7.9 years until 2022.
Women who engaged in an average of 3.4 minutes of vigorous physical activity per day had a 45% lower risk of developing cardiovascular diseases compared to women with no recorded vigorous activity. Specifically, their risk of myocardial infarction was reduced by 51%, and their risk of heart failure was reduced by 67%.
Women who exercised for an average of 1.5 minutes each time had a 30% reduced risk of major cardiovascular diseases, a 33% reduced risk of myocardial infarction, and a 40% reduced risk of heart failure. These correlations were clear in women, but not in men.
The research team stated in the paper that "occasionally engaging in intense physical activity in daily life may help prevent cardiovascular diseases in people who do not exercise at all regularly."

When there are no self-driving vehicles, the bus stop is limited.
I was just walking around.
Now that I have a caregiver, even nearby places
I always use a car.
Walking is very helpful even in daily life, but
Should I take a walk during lunchtime?
