The reason for the increasing number of young Parkinson's patients... Surprisingly, is it because of 'this'?

It's a big problem.
Air pollution is becoming increasingly severe...
This kind of air pollution is causing serious diseases in humans.
It is said that air pollution is also related to Parkinson's disease.
Avoid places with severe air pollution.. I need to take care of my health~

Parkinson's disease is the fastest-growing neurological disorder worldwide, affecting 2% of the population over 70 years old, and it is expected to triple in number within the next 20 years. Exposure to fine smoke particles from car exhaust or burning wood can cause inflammation in the body, which is known to increase the risk of developing Parkinson's disease.

It is estimated that about 20% of people with Parkinson's disease, which occurs due to damage to brain cells, experience symptoms before the age of 50. Neurologist Dr. Antu Bu told the Daily Mail, "Parkinson's disease has traditionally been found in people over 60, but it is increasingly common among younger people."

Daily Mail reported that a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Network Open (JAMA Network Open) identified increased air pollution as a cause for the decreasing age of onset of Parkinson's disease.

Researchers at the Barrow Neurological Institute in the United States divided 346 patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in Minnesota from 1991 to 2015 into two groups. One group consisted of patients whose cognitive function declined more rapidly and had slower motor abilities, and the other group consisted of patients with tremor symptoms.

The researchers also calculated the average annual PM2.5 levels (airborne particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers) from 1998 to 2019 and nitrogen dioxide levels from 2000 to 2014. They then analyzed the pollution levels within 1 km of the participants' home addresses. PM2.5 consists of soot particles in the air that are invisible to the human eye and can penetrate deep into the lungs through the bloodstream.

The research results showed that higher levels of contamination were associated with Parkinson's disease compared to lower exposure levels. Additionally, in groups with faster cognitive decline and slower movement speed, the risk of onset increased by 36%, leading to a more rapid progression of memory decline.

According to the Parkinson's Foundation, higher PM2.5 levels are associated with an increased risk of developing dyskinesia. Dyskinesia is a side effect of Parkinson's disease that causes involuntary or uncontrollable muscle movements. The researchers stated, "Reducing air pollution may help decrease the risk of Parkinson's disease."
