My husband snores loudly and sweats while sleeping... Why is he acting like this?

Husband who snores loudly, sometimes sweating cold sweat? In addition to snoring, many common abnormal symptoms can be signals of sleep apnea, so caution is necessary.

Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by temporary cessation of breathing caused by significant narrowing of the airway during sleep. Unlike simple snoring, it is classified as a disease and occurs during sleep, making it difficult for individuals to recognize on their own, which often leads to neglect. Especially in winter, when there is less sunlight, the secretion of melatonin, also known as the sleep hormone, decreases, making it difficult to fall into deep sleep, and indoor dryness increases the likelihood of respiratory problems.

U.S. CNN reports that sleep apnea can cause abnormal symptoms.

Sweating easily, frequent awakening, teeth grinding, depression and severe fatigue, insomnia, etc.

One in three patients with sleep apnea experiences night sweats, according to research findings. The reason is believed to be that the body switches to a 'fight-or-flight' mode due to insufficient oxygen supply. According to the Mayo Clinic in the United States, in addition to sleep apnea, causes of night sweats can include cancer, thyroid disorders, influenza or bacterial infections, and the onset of menopause.

If you can't breathe properly while sleeping, you may not get deep sleep and may frequently wake up to find the bathroom.

Usually, nocturnal enuresis is caused by excessive alcohol consumption, diabetes, edema, hypertension, reactions to certain medications, pregnancy, prostate abnormalities, or excessive fluid intake, but experts also believe that sleep apnea can induce nocturnal enuresis.

There is a study showing that half of the patients with sleep apnea exhibited symptoms of nocturia, and when their sleep quality improved through treatment, the number of times they woke up during sleep decreased.

Teeth grinding may also be caused by sleep apnea. Although not yet proven, there is a theory that when the airway is blocked, the mouth and jaw muscles move to open the airway. Headaches that occur immediately upon waking due to insufficient oxygen supply and inability to reach deep sleep may also be caused by sleep apnea.

As the quality of sleep declines, fatigue accumulates, and sensitive individuals find it difficult to fall back asleep after waking, which can lead to insomnia.

If you don't sleep properly, your thinking skills, reaction time, memory, and problem-solving abilities can decline, disrupting daily life and potentially leading to depression, so careful attention is necessary.

A disease that is easy to dismiss and overlook

Sleep apnea can increase the risk of cardiovascular complications such as hypertension, stroke, angina, and myocardial infarction, as well as the risk of developing dementia, and it can also negatively affect mental health, making it potentially dangerous. It is advisable to carefully monitor oneself or those around them, and if suspicious symptoms are present, to seek prompt consultation with a specialist for appropriate treatment.

===================

I've heard a lot about sleep apnea and dementia.

Cardiovascular complications such as hypertension, stroke, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction

I've never heard of these symptoms before.

Always at the top of health check rankings

It seems to affect the quality of sleep.

I'm just tired, so I guess I'll snore..

It's not even a thought.
