As soon as I eat it, my blood sugar spikes rapidly. Surprisingly, there is a food that is worst for diabetes. Quite a twist.

The food is 'curry'.

Many people overlook the fact that curry is not suitable for diabetic patients. The curry we commonly cook contains a lot of starch, carbohydrates, and sodium, making it an unsuitable food for people with diabetes.

Of course, turmeric, the main ingredient of curry, is known to contain beneficial components for health.

Curcumin found in turmeric has excellent antioxidant effects and helps inhibit nerve cell destruction and inflammation caused by reactive oxygen species. In addition, there are research findings that suggest curcumin lowers blood sugar and is effective in the prevention and treatment of not only diabetes but also cardiovascular diseases, dementia, and depression. Since curcumin is fat-soluble, its absorption rate in the body is low when consumed alone. Therefore, it is recommended to consume it together with dairy products like yogurt or with oils.

However, it should not be overlooked that a significant portion of curry powder sold in the market is composed of carbohydrates that raise sugar levels. It is also important to know that curry contains starch. The reason curry can maintain a thick, not watery texture is precisely because of the starch. Many diabetic patients experience an increase in blood sugar levels after consuming curry, having only heard about the benefits of turmeric.

How much turmeric, the main spice in curry, is actually used? In fact, only about 3% of turmeric is included in curry powder. The remaining ingredients consist of flour, various starches, sugar, and chemical flavorings, which have a negative impact on blood sugar management.

So, if you really want to eat curry, what should you do? If you crave curry, you should definitely choose chicken breast or seafood as the main protein, and avoid potatoes while selecting carrots, zucchini, and onions as vegetables. Replace white rice with multigrain rice and reduce the portion size. It is also very important to check the nutritional content of the curry powder and choose a product with a high turmeric content.

In conclusion, it cannot be denied that the turmeric component in curry is beneficial for diabetes. However, since turmeric does not constitute a large portion of the overall ingredients in curry, it is difficult for curry to have a positive effect on diabetes. It contains excessive carbohydrates and sodium, which can have adverse effects on diabetic patients.

==================

I am currently taking a water-soluble curcumin supplement.

I also like curry..

Eating a lot of carbohydrates also raises blood sugar levels.

I think I can climb it.

Meat -> chicken breast. Seafood.. I should remember.
