Family member developed liver cancer after improperly washing chopsticks... Shocking story
Many people are accustomed to grabbing chopsticks at once and rubbing them to clean. However, toxicology experts have stated that this is a completely 'incorrect cleaning method.'
On the 7th (local time), according to Thai media Sanook, Tan Dunci, a specialized nurse in clinical toxicology at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, delivered a speech on how to properly clean chopsticks during a medical and health program.
She often mentions that chopsticks have horizontal grooves and advises, "You should wash along the incision site. Then, rub all the chopsticks in a straight line several times," emphasizing, "Don't forget to wash them one by one."
He also recommended using a soft sponge to clean chopsticks that have patterns or are made of metal. "If there are patterns, they can peel off, and if the chopsticks are metal, they can scratch, which can cause toxins to enter the body," he explained.
Toxins such as mold and aflatoxin found on bamboo chopsticks are very harmful to the liver and are classified as carcinogens.
According to research, 'Aflatoxin' has been found to be 68 times more toxic than 'Arsenic'.
Additionally, melamine or plastic chopsticks are very sensitive to heat and can easily deform. It was warned that they could release harmful substances to the liver and kidneys.
He also stated, "Melamine tableware can superficially withstand temperatures over 100 degrees Celsius, but in actual use, it may start to decompose at 40 to 50 degrees," and warned, "You should not pour boiling broth into melamine tableware."
