July 27 (Sat) "Was it always this much?"... When I reduced this food, did my weight change significantly?
Concern that products labeled 'unsweetened' may be mistaken for having low calories 🥲
It's unsweetened... 😶
Which products contain beans and are high in calories?
Recently, products emphasizing "zero sugar," "sugar-free," and "unsweetened" are being released as sweeteners are used instead of sugars like sugar. However, this does not mean that the sugar content is in a "zero" state. If the sugar content is less than 0.5g per 100g (ml) of the food, it can be labeled as "sugar-free." Similar expressions include "no sugar," "zero sugar," and "sugar free." Frequently consuming such products may lead to the accumulation of sugar and calories in the body, increasing the risk of weight gain.
Therefore, starting from January 2026, the government has mandated that foods labeled with terms like 'Zero Sugar,' 'Sugar-Free,' or 'Unsweetened,' which use sweeteners instead of sugars, must also display a 'Contains Sweeteners' label along with calorie information. In other words, the existing 'Zero Sugar' label should be modified to include details such as 'Zero Sugar (Contains Sweeteners, 000kcal)' or 'Zero Sugar (Contains Sweeteners, not a product with reduced calories).' Additionally, in response to concerns that the purpose of food additives is difficult to understand from the name alone, the regulations require that the names and purposes of additives, such as 'Sodium Saccharin (Sweetener)' and 'Aspartame (Sweetener),' be displayed together.
I ate a lot of sweets... gained weight and developed diabetes.
Risk of ADHD too 😱
Eating a lot of sugar causes the excess sugar to be converted into fat in the body, leading to obesity. It also causes blood sugar levels to spike, increasing the risk of developing diabetes. There is also a possibility of developing attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In addition to genetics and environment, this is believed to be caused by excessive intake of flavor enhancers, sweeteners, refined sugar, artificial colors, and caffeine. ADHD is characterized by constant movement, touching everything, and often accompanied by symptoms of attention deficit. It can affect not only children but also adults.
It is the energy source for the body and brain...
Eating a lot makes you gain weight.😵
Sugar supplies energy (4 kcal per gram) to the body and provides glucose that aids brain activity. Especially in the morning, since glucose is almost depleted during sleep, carbohydrates (glucose) must be consumed through meals. However, overeating is problematic. Excess sugar is partially stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen, but the rest is converted into fat, which causes weight gain.
Sugar in natural foods... 😵💫
"Always check the ingredient list on processed foods."
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that sugar intake should be within 10% of total calorie intake, and for a 2000 kcal diet, sugar should be limited to 50g. Natural foods also contain sugar. These include fruits, honey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and corn (per 100g: strawberries 3g, milk 4g, tomatoes 5g). Natural foods with a sweet taste tend to contain more sugar.
Processed foods contain a lot of hidden sugars added to produce sweetness. When choosing processed foods, you need to identify the hidden sugars. It is better to eat less sweet foods like ice cream, cookies, and cakes, and instead of fruit juice, opt for fruits; and instead of snacks, choose vegetables or fruits.
