The first way to avoid chemical exposure, don't use 'this'
To prevent chemical exposure, simply avoiding the use of plastic can be very helpful. In the kitchen, plastic containers are used frequently, and using polycarbonate (PC) plastic containers can release suspected environmental hormones such as bisphenol A. It is better to use eco-friendly plastic containers, glass, or stainless steel containers whenever possible. Additionally, when reheating fatty foods in the microwave, do not use plastic wrap, as phthalates in the wrap can leach into the fat.
Various bleaches used for indoor cleaning are the main culprits in polluting indoor air. To prevent indoor air pollution, it is better to clean with substances like vinegar, lemon, or baking soda rather than these chemicals. Vinegar helps remove stains and makes laundry soft. Baking soda is good for cleaning dishes, glass, and tiles. Sprinkling baking soda on carpets or mattresses and scrubbing can remove stains and dirt.
When eating fish, caution should be exercised regarding polychlorinated biphenyls, endocrine-disrupting substances. According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the average contamination levels of polychlorinated biphenyls from 2012 to 2017 were highest in the following food groups: ▲seafood ▲livestock products ▲processed foods ▲agricultural products. Among seafood, the highest detection rates were found in ▲whales ▲yellowtail ▲squid ▲herring ▲clams ▲mackerel. Polychlorinated biphenyls tend to accumulate heavily in fish skins and internal organs, so it is advisable to remove these parts before cooking. Boiling the fish is also an effective method. It has been reported that boiling reduces the polychlorinated biphenyl content in food more than grilling.
When choosing children's toys, you cannot be completely assured of safety even with fabric toys as well as plastic ones. This is because various dyes, synthetic fragrances, and fire-retardant substances used during the decoration process can enter the child's body through the respiratory system. Additionally, wooden toys may also have undergone chemical treatment. Therefore, it is better to select products that have not been painted with toxic substances rather than those that have been chemically treated.
