Comedian Hong Hyun-hee (42) revealed herself eating konjac noodles for health management.
On the 27th, the YouTube channel 'Hong Hyun-hee and Jae-sun's Hong-sun TV' posted a video titled 'Are you tired now? No?' In this video, Hong Hyun-hee, who is managing her diet, revealed that she eats konjac noodles rather than regular noodles, showing herself eating soybean noodles. Later, after having a late-night snack, Hong Hyun-hee said, "It's past midnight. Since I am currently correcting my habits, I will go exercise," and added, "I will walk for about an hour." Let's take a closer look at the benefits of konjac noodles that Hong Hyun-hee eats for management.
Konjac noodles have a low calorie content of about 10 kcal per 100g. The main component of konjac is a dietary fiber called 'glucomannan.' Glucomannan dissolves into a sticky substance in the intestines, sticking to food and delaying the absorption of carbohydrates. It is absorbed slowly, causing blood sugar levels to rise gradually. An advantage of konjac is that it provides a feeling of fullness even with a small amount. Konjac is composed of 97.3% water, which is similar to drinking water. In fact, there has been a study published in the journal 'Alternative Medicine in Health and Medicine' indicating that konjac can induce weight loss in overweight or obese individuals.
However, if you experience bloating, stomach rumbling, or mild diarrhea after eating konjac, you should reduce the amount consumed. Glucomannan, the main component of konjac, is different from other carbohydrates that are broken down into glucose in the body; dietary fiber, although classified as a carbohydrate, is not broken down into glucose and is not digestible. When undigested konjac reaches the intestines, it is fermented by intestinal microorganisms, which promotes gas production and causes stomach upset.
Therefore, it is important to consume the appropriate amount of konjac. Also, if you eat konjac for one meal, you should have a balanced diet for the other meals to adequately intake the lacking nutrients. Especially if the goal is weight loss, it is better to consume foods rich in protein such as milk, soy, or tofu rather than insisting only on konjac.
Meanwhile, walking exercise after eating late-night snacks helps with dieting. As a result of a 12-week walking program operated by the Korea National Park Service, when participants walked an average of about 12 km more than 2 to 3 times a week, their average body mass index decreased by 0.23 kg/m². Walking exercise consumes sugars in muscles and glucose in the blood as energy. When all the sugars are used up, fat is burned as energy, leading to a reduction in body fat.
