Comedian Sim Jin-hwa (44) shared a late-night workout photo.

On the 10th, Sim Jin-hwa posted a photo of herself walking her dog on Instagram along with the caption, "Mom lost 9.5 kg, but it’s not noticeable." Then, on the 11th, she posted a photo of herself sweating and exercising with the caption, "51 minutes on the indoor bike at night." Previously, Sim Jin-hwa revealed that she had recently lost 8.5 kg. We explore the weight loss effects of cycling at night that Sim Jin-hwa is doing.

Aerobic exercises like cycling help reduce swelling. When performing aerobic exercise, not only are the soles of the feet stimulated, but muscles also rapidly relax and contract, improving blood circulation. Additionally, aerobic exercise helps burn body fat and aids in weight loss. In particular, doing aerobic exercise on an empty stomach can lead to greater weight loss effects. During exercise, carbohydrates and fats are burned together, but in a fasting state, since there are no carbohydrates in the body, body fat is burned more quickly.

When riding a bicycle, it is not only an aerobic exercise but also an effective workout for strengthening the thigh muscles, which are the largest muscles in our body and help stabilize the knee joints. When riding a bicycle, the saddle height should be adjusted so that when the foot is at the lowest point, the knee is slightly bent at about 10 to 15 degrees. This reduces patellar stimulation and minimizes knee strain. However, people with back problems should be cautious. Sitting on a bicycle for a long time can put strain on the back, especially for those with conditions like a herniated disc. In such cases, it is recommended to choose a bicycle with a backrest to distribute the weight, keep the exercise duration under 15 minutes, and ride multiple times.

Let's listen to fast music while cycling. Listening to fast music with a tempo of about 120-140 bpm (beats per minute) doubles the workout effect. This is because it helps you move in sync with the rhythm and beat of the music, making the strenuous exercise feel less difficult. Moreover, stimulating elements such as a fast tempo and loud sounds activate the sympathetic nervous system, prompting the release of neurotransmitters that boost metabolism.
