I thought they were only good for the body... Three foods with unexpected side effects

Almond milk=

Almond milk contains less protein and calcium compared to cow's milk. Based on a 200ml serving, cow's milk contains 6g of protein, whereas almond milk contains only 1g of protein. Additionally, almond milk generally has significantly lower calcium content than cow's milk, although this varies depending on the product. According to statistics from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 7 out of 10 Koreans consume less than 75% of the recommended calcium intake. In this context, some experts point out that consuming almond milk, which is low in calcium, as a substitute for milk is not advisable. Especially for growing children, replacing milk with almond milk is considered inappropriate. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that limiting infants' intake of animal dairy products to plant-based milks could lead to nutritional deficiencies.

Protein drink=

Some people consume protein drinks immediately after exercise to quickly intake protein. However, protein drinks are classified as 'liquid foods' because they are in a drinkable form. Liquid foods do not require chewing with teeth and easily pass through the digestive system, making them easy to digest. As a result, even if a sufficient amount has been consumed, the feeling of fullness may only last for a short time. To feel full, the satiety center in the hypothalamus of the brain must be stimulated, leading to the secretion of the appetite-suppressing hormone 'leptin.' It takes at least 20 minutes for leptin to act and induce a feeling of fullness. However, if one finishes a meal quickly by consuming liquid foods, the sensation of fullness cannot keep up with the rapid eating pace. Even after eating, the stomach may still be empty, making it easy to overeat or seek snacks afterward. This can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels, increase fat synthesis, and potentially lead to gastrointestinal issues, obesity, or diabetes.

Energy bar

Energy bars are processed foods designed to fill in for lacking calories. Made from nuts and whole grains or consumed because they can supplement protein, people often think of energy bars as healthy snacks or meal replacements. However, the majority of energy bars contain sugar or high-fructose corn syrup, which can cause obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Additionally, because energy bars are processed foods, they contain artificial additives. Excessive consumption of artificial food additives can cause inflammation in the body. Some artificial food additives are not easily digestible or broken down, and the body may recognize them as foreign substances.
