Hospital identity verification mandatory, reasons and questions
What is the reason?
Starting from the 20th, it has become mandatory to carry identification when visiting hospitals and other medical institutions for identity verification.
This was implemented as cases of health insurance loaning and theft, such as overseas residents enjoying domestic health insurance benefits or receiving prescriptions for psychoactive drugs under someone else's name, increased to over 40,000 cases last year.
What types of identification are accepted?
Valid identification for identity verification includes a resident registration card, driver's license, passport, disability registration card, alien registration card, and health insurance card. However, in the case of the new blue passport, it cannot be used because the last digits of the resident registration number are not printed.
Additionally, copies of identification cards taken by capture or photo are not recognized as electronic identification and cannot be used.
What should I do if I don't have identification?
If you forget and leave your ID at home, you can use an electronic ID card instead of a physical ID.
By installing the National Health Insurance Service app 'Mobile Health Insurance Card,' you can immediately issue your health insurance card on your smartphone after identity verification.
Can I not receive treatment at all without identification?
Even if you do not bring your mobile phone, you can still receive medical treatment, but health insurance will not be applied, and you must pay the full amount of the medical expenses yourself. However, if you visit again within 14 days with your ID and receipt, health insurance can be applied.
Minors under the age of 19 or cases where referrals and transfers are received are exempt from submitting identification. Additionally, within six months of identity verification at the hospital, patients can receive treatment without an ID.
Do I need an ID card when receiving telemedicine?
Just like in-person consultations, non-face-to-face consultations also require identity verification, but you can do so without a separate ID by using mobile PASS authentication like now. The re-authentication period is also the same as in-person visits, which is 6 months.
