A story of overcoming diabetes by walking 10,000 steps
I never thought I had diabetes because of my slim build. However, due to my family history, I was diagnosed with the condition. So, while searching various websites, I came across an article that said walking 10,000 steps was good for diabetes management, so I started walking. While there's no cure for diabetes, I still tried to walk consistently. At first, I was out of breath and my knees hurt, but I gradually got used to it by dividing my daily walks into 30-minute chunks. To overcome my diabetes, I took the stairs instead of the elevator and always walked short distances. After about a month, my fasting blood sugar level began to gradually decrease. I also adjusted my diet by one meal a day, and continued walking 10,000 steps. Two months after my diabetes diagnosis, I had a hospital checkup and my glycated hemoglobin level significantly improved. I also naturally lost weight back to my pre-diabetes weight, feeling much lighter. More importantly, I felt less fatigued and was able to sleep more deeply. Now, walking 10,000 steps is no longer a chore, but the most refreshing part of my day.
The biggest change I've experienced from consistently walking 10,000 steps during my diabetes battle isn't so much overcoming it as gaining the confidence to manage my own health. After my diabetes diagnosis, my HbA1c level returned to normal at 5.2 after walking 10,000 steps. Now, having been diagnosed with diabetes, I no longer take medication and am regaining my health through consistent walking and a controlled diet.
