Old pumpkins, in season from fall to winter, boast health benefits thanks to their abundance of beneficial nutrients, including minerals and dietary fiber. Here are some of the health benefits of old pumpkins.

Old pumpkin is rich in vitamins and minerals, particularly beneficial for those with high blood pressure and diabetes. It is gaining attention as a superfood, known for its stroke prevention, fatigue recovery, anti-aging, and anti-cancer properties.

 

Old pumpkins are rich in dietary fiber, which promotes bowel movements and prevents constipation. The sugars are easily digested and absorbed, making them beneficial for those with weak stomachs. In hospitals, they are often used as a recovery food after surgery.

 

It also has excellent diuretic and detoxifying properties. It is helpful for patients recovering from illness, the elderly, and new mothers. It is also effective in reducing swelling after childbirth and due to diabetes. However, those with impaired kidney function or extremely thin women should exercise caution.

Old pumpkins are also great for dieting. They're low in calories, at just 29 kcal per 100g, and rich in dietary fiber, which contributes to a feeling of fullness. The pectin found in old pumpkins promotes bowel movements, preventing constipation. They're also rich in immune-boosting nutrients like iron and vitamins A, C, and E.

It's also effective for skin care. Beta-carotene blocks UV rays and improves skin elasticity. The U.S. National Cancer Institute reported that consistently consuming half a cup of aged pumpkin daily can cut the risk of lung cancer by half. It's also known to have anti-cancer properties and boost resistance to colds.

Additionally, lutein, which is abundant in pumpkin, helps prevent cancer and protect eyesight.

 

Pumpkin seeds are also good for your health. Women who regularly consume them have a lower risk of breast cancer, and men have shown benefits in preventing hair loss. Essential amino acids and vitamin E promote blood circulation in the brain and aid in brain development.
