When on a diet, it's better to drink this instead of craving coffee.

When on a diet, it's better to hold back on coffee and drink 'this'

When dieting, you'll find yourself worrying more about every single drink than usual. If you're someone who craves caffeine and drinks coffee every day, try switching to green tea. It can help prevent constipation and aid weight loss while dieting.

Green tea has lower caffeine content than coffee. While hydration is essential for dieting, excessive caffeine intake can actually cause dehydration, impede circulation, and lead to constipation. Green tea contains only about 15 mg per cup (one tea bag), less than a quarter of the 70 mg found in coffee.

Moreover, the catechins in green tea possess exceptional antioxidant properties, making them even more beneficial for weight loss. Catechins reduce blood glucose, fatty acids, and cholesterol levels, inhibiting fat synthesis and promoting fat breakdown. This effect also promotes smooth blood circulation, helping prevent conditions like high blood pressure and stroke.

Green tea is also effective in preventing dementia. According to a cohort study by a Japanese research team published in the international journal "Nutrients," people who regularly consumed green tea over a long period of time had a lower risk of dementia, Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and cognitive impairment compared to those who did not. The research team speculated that polyphenol components such as catechins may have reduced oxidative stress and inflammation in the cerebral blood vessels.

However, caution is advised, as excessive green tea consumption can lead to liver damage. While a causal relationship has not been clearly established, a British media outlet reported a case in which a man with no underlying health conditions developed liver disease after taking a health supplement containing catechins for two months. In fact, the medical team that examined the patient attributed the man's liver deterioration to the green tea extract health supplement. The recommended daily intake of catechins is 300mg, so it's recommended to check the catechin content and ensure it doesn't exceed 300mg per day.
