Looking at your smartphone during an emergency? That's a big problem.

70-80% of hemorrhoid patients have 'hemorrhoids'
The longer you sit on the toilet, the greater the risk
When anal fissures become chronic
Possibility of complications such as ulcers and fistulas

Importance of dietary habits such as fiber and water intake
Avoid taking medications that cause constipation or diarrhea

It is no easy task to leave your smartphone behind when going to the bathroom to take care of a "big job." If there are no specific symptoms like constipation, you can usually focus and finish your business within a short period of time, but if you get distracted by the various content on your smartphone screen, the time spent sitting on the toilet can endlessly increase. The problem is that as that time lengthens and gradually accumulates, it can worsen anal health. Conditions such as hemorrhoids, fissures, and anal fistulas can cause recurring pain every time you go to the bathroom.

Hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas, which are representative diseases of the anal area, are collectively called hemorrhoids. Among these, hemorrhoids account for 70-80% and are a condition where a mass of blood vessels protrudes around the anal mucosa. The risk of occurrence increases especially when sitting on the toilet for a long time. Professor Moonjin Kim of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University, warned, "Many people spend a long time sitting on the toilet while looking at their smartphones, but this can cause blood to flow severely into the anus, which can lead to hemorrhoids."

▲Main factors that cause hemorrhoids

Habit of sitting on the left toilet for a long time

Frequent alcohol consumption that dilates blood vessels around the anus

A diet low in fiber and high in animal protein

Stress, advanced age, pregnancy, family history

Hard stool due to insufficient fluid intake

Constipation due to dieting

To prevent anal diseases, it is also good to pay attention to your eating habits. It is recommended to consume 20-30g of fiber and 1.5-2.0 liters of water daily to facilitate bowel movements. Sitting on the toilet for a long time is not advisable, so it is best to stand up immediately after finishing, even if it doesn't feel refreshing. Additionally, avoid taking medications that cause constipation or diarrhea, and if symptoms occur, warm water sitz baths can be helpful.

Some people believe that hemorrhoids, including hemorrhoids, can develop into anal cancer such as colon cancer if left untreated for a long time, but this is not true. However, fistulas can increase the risk of anal cancer, so caution is necessary. Professor Kim Moon-jin explains, "The most common symptom that appears to be shared between hemorrhoids and anal cancer is rectal bleeding. If such symptoms occur, it is advisable to visit a hospital for a colonoscopy or screening," and "If it is hemorrhoids, preventing worsening is important, and if it is cancer, early detection and treatment are crucial."

I also don't take my smartphone when I go to the bathroom.

I consistently used sitz baths and successfully healed my anal fissure.

I always make sure to eat a salad at least once a day.

If you feel shy about visiting the hospital, try consistently practicing these three things~
