Post-treatment review after discovering stomach cancer during a health checkup
I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would get stomach cancer. There were no diseases caused by poor digestion of food, nor were there any symptoms like stomach ulcers. I had my regular health check-up as usual and had requested to receive the results by mail, but about twenty days later, I received a call from the doctor.
A nodule is visible above, and after visiting the hospital for consultation, it was suggested that a CT scan of the forehead should also be performed. I was feeling anxious, so after the consultation, I underwent the CT scan. About ten days later, I scheduled an appointment to discuss with the doctor.
The consultation results indicated that I needed to undergo a very unfamiliar surgery called endoscopic mucosal resection for early-stage stomach cancer. This procedure is for patients with early stomach cancer confined to the mucosa, and if the tumor is small, within 2 centimeters, it can be performed in about 60 minutes. It allows patients to live with their normal stomachs. A few days later, I was hospitalized, successfully underwent the surgery, and was discharged two days afterward. Even now, three months after discharge, I continue regular check-ups, but so far, there have been no abnormalities, and I am maintaining a normal life. I recently learned that cancer is only considered cured after observing its course for five years, and if there are no signs of metastasis or other abnormalities during that period, a complete cure is confirmed.
It was unfortunate that our ancestors, who lived during a time when medical technology had not yet advanced, died without even knowing what illness they had.
And as I got older, I could feel my body's organs gradually deteriorating one by one. How long will this last? I realize that this condition will continue until I die. Also, I became more aware that I need to pay even more attention to my health care in everyday life to prevent unexpected emergencies.
Health is not something to be complacent about when you're healthy; it is the best to be able to maintain your health. It was a good reminder of that. Elderly, fighting!
