Post-treatment review of stomach cancer found during health checkup
I never even dreamed that I would get stomach cancer. I had no symptoms at all, such as indigestion or stomach cramps.
There was no pain related to the above. I had applied to receive a routine health checkup and to get the results by mail, but about ten days later, I received a call from the hospital. They said that a nodule was visible on the stomach, so a CT scan should be performed for a detailed observation.
I am waiting for the results with an anxious heart when I received a call from the doctor. They told me to come in on a certain date. After consulting with anxiety, I was told that I have early-stage stomach cancer and that if I undergo a procedure called endoscopic mucosal resection, which I don't know much about, it can be simply cured. This procedure is limited to the mucosa and is suitable for small tumors within 2 centimeters, and it can be treated by endoscopic resection.
The procedure was performed using a sleep endoscopy method, and the patient was discharged two days after the approximately one-hour surgery. They continue to live with a normal stomach, so they can carry out their daily activities as usual. It has been about three months since the procedure, and no abnormalities such as metastasis have been detected so far.
The lesson I learned from experiencing this situation is that as we age, our various organs also age, so we need to be aware that unexpected illnesses can develop. It was particularly poignant to realize that our ancestors, who lived in times when medical science was not advanced, died without even knowing what disease they had.
As a result of this incident, I realized the importance of consistently managing my health and regularly checking for any abnormalities in my body, so I decided to undergo a health check-up at least once a year. I also learned that if I notice any abnormal symptoms in my body, the illness may be quite advanced, making it difficult to treat.
