Hello, I am currently a somewhat popular (?) bladder infection survivor. Honestly, I hesitated a lot before writing this down. But once I wrote it, I thought it might give a little strength to those suffering like me, so I decided to post it on the bulletin board. Bladder infection was truly no easy opponent.
At first, I just thought, "Oh, I feel a bit uncomfortable." Every time I went to the bathroom, it was slightly stinging, and I had the feeling that my urine wasn't clear. But I was busy, so I brushed it off as nothing serious. Isn't that the trend these days? Everyone pushes themselves a bit too hard, and when their bodies send signals, they take care of it then. But after a few days, I realized this wasn't a joke. After going to the bathroom, I wanted to go again, and it felt like... my bladder was throwing a party on its own. That's when I realized. This is definitely a bladder infection. ㅜㅜㅜ
The day I decided to go to the hospital is truly memorable. When I opened the door to the obstetrics and gynecology department, I felt a little embarrassed, but these days, taking care of your health is more trendy, right? The doctor did an ultrasound and a urine test, then gave a clear diagnosis: "You have acute cystitis." It was caused by a bacterial infection leading to inflammation. I received a prescription and started taking antibiotics, but it wasn't easy. I was told to take them diligently twice a day and to drink a lot of water, so I upgraded my lifestyle to carry a water bottle everywhere. But honestly, in the beginning, I didn't feel any immediate improvement even after taking the medication, which was a bit frustrating.
The hardest part of the treatment process was preventing recurrence. I heard that once you get cystitis, it can happen again. Especially when I looked it up on Naver, there were many reviews saying they were trapped in a "cystitis recurrence loop," which made me a bit scared. So, I came up with my own complete recovery plan. First of all, water! I made sure to drink at least 2 liters a day. I even bought a smart water bottle that beeped every time I needed to drink. Following the wellness trend these days, it didn't feel too bad.
I also made some adjustments to my diet. I tried to avoid spicy and salty foods as much as possible and started taking probiotics, like yogurt or supplement probiotics. I heard that gut health is connected to preventing cystitis. However, it wasn't easy. When working late at the office, it's natural to go for delivery food... Still, I endured by sticking to salads or chicken breasts at home. As a result, I felt my body becoming lighter, and the symptoms of cystitis gradually diminished.
I also added some light exercise. Honestly, I wondered what exercise has to do with cystitis, but I heard that improving blood circulation can reduce inflammation. So these days, I follow popular home workouts, doing stretching and light strength exercises.
About a month after treatment, my symptoms finally almost disappeared. I also reduced the number of trips to the bathroom, and that uncomfortable feeling was gone~. When I went for a follow-up with my doctor, I was really proud to hear, "You're fully recovered." But this isn't the end. Even after full recovery, I am still working to prevent the recurrence of cystitis. Drinking water has now become part of my routine, and I occasionally drink cranberry juice. Another tip I can give is not to hold it in for too long. I heard that this is a hidden cause of cystitis. These days, I confidently tell my coworkers, "I'm going to the bathroom," and go. Because taking care of your health is even more impressive.
Looking back, the fight against cystitis was difficult, but it was also an opportunity that made me healthier. I learned a lot during the treatment process and became more attentive to my body. If anyone is currently struggling with cystitis, don't worry too much. By taking medication properly, drinking plenty of water, and making a few lifestyle changes, you can definitely overcome it. Just like me! After full recovery, your quality of life truly changes, so don't give up and see it through to the end.
