Our family's essential health food!! Plum extract!!

Every year around June, we harvest unprocessed plums. If they are not fresh, we also buy products made from fresh plums.

  • Good plum: Fresh plums that are free of blemishes and insect damage, firm, and vibrant in color.
  • Care instructions: Remove impurities multiple times by soaking in water mixed with baking soda or vinegar, then dry.
  • Making Plum Extract: Sanitize and dry the glass jar in advance. Mix the plums with honey or sugar in a 1:1 ratio (please remove the stems, as they can cause a bitter taste). For those who consume the plum extract after about three months, please remove the plums or the plum seeds. Plum seeds contain a toxin called amygdalin. I do not remove the seeds and let it age for over a year before consuming. After more than a year, the toxicity of amygdalin is completely broken down. Additionally, the longer it ages, the deeper and richer the flavor becomes^^

Every year, I also make plum extract, plum wine, and pickled plums.

In summer, refreshing drinks with plum; in winter, warm plum tea; and side dishes with pickled plums. Especially when eaten with meat, the crisp and tangy texture pairs perfectly with the meat.

Housewives will likely use plum extract a lot when cooking. Whether it's bok choy salad, bibim noodles, or whelk salad, all dishes stand out with a savory and refreshing flavor. Our family often enjoys it as a dessert after meals, and on days when digestion is a bit off or we've eaten too much, we fill a shot glass with plum extract and gulp it down like a digestive aid. Among the benefits of plums, their ability to aid digestion is well known. Perhaps because of that, our family, who often eats a lot of meat and hearty rice meals, hasn't experienced indigestion or stomach upset.
