"Headache for no reason?"... 'Such eating habits' can trigger migraines

That's good content.

Get enough sleep, manage stress, and stay hydrated.

I should be selective about what I eat~

Migraine is one of the painful conditions experienced by many people. In particular, the factors that can trigger or worsen migraines vary and differ from person to person. If medication does not improve the condition, it may be necessary to alleviate migraines through unexpected methods such as lifestyle modifications.

Irregular sleep is one of the main causes of migraines. Both lack of sleep and excessive sleep can trigger migraines. According to preliminary data from a research team at Harvard University in the United States, insufficient sleep causes stress to the brain and nervous system, leading to migraines. In particular, it was found that the risk of migraines increases when sleep duration is six hours or less. To prevent this, it is important to maintain a regular sleep pattern, go to bed at the same time every day, and wake up at the same time.

Adequate hydration plays an important role in preventing migraines. It is explained that when hydration is insufficient, the amount of blood flowing to the brain decreases, causing increased stress on brain cells and potentially leading to migraines. A research team from Maastricht University in the Netherlands observed 100 headache patients over a period of three months and found that consistently drinking plenty of water reduced headaches and migraines. The team observed that drinking about 8 glasses of water a day improved the quality of life for migraine sufferers.

Some foods can trigger migraines. Processed meats, caffeine, and chocolate are typical examples. Processed meats contain nitrites used as preservatives, which can dilate blood vessels and potentially cause migraines. Caffeine can alleviate headaches in small amounts, but consuming more than 200mg of caffeine per day may increase the risk of migraines. There are reports that chocolate can trigger migraines, with phenylethylamine and caffeine in chocolate being identified as potential causes. Conversely, foods that can help alleviate migraines include ginger and spinach.

Stress is a major trigger for migraines. Stress increases the secretion of a stress hormone called cortisol in the body, and when cortisol remains elevated for a long period, headaches and migraines can occur. If you want to reduce stress, it is recommended to engage in mindfulness-based activities such as sitting meditation and walking meditation. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), migraine patients were divided into two groups: one received mindfulness therapy, and the other received only headache education. As a result, the group that participated in mindfulness-based activities experienced relief from migraines and a significant improvement in quality of life.
