The World Health Organization (WHO) and health authorities around the world advocate for "reducing sugar and salt." Because they are shortcuts to damaging the body. Middle-aged people experiencing aging are at increased risk of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, stomach cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Young people are also only a matter of time. People who always add salt... have a 41% higher incidence of stomach cancer.

A recent article published in the international journal 'Gastric Cancer' reported that people who habitually add salt during meals have a 41% higher incidence of gastric cancer. The study tracked and observed 471,144 British individuals with no cancer over 11 years, with an average age of 56. Salt damages the epithelial cells of the stomach, making it easier for Helicobacter pylori to invade and increasing the absorption of carcinogens such as N-nitroso compounds. To prevent gastric cancer, it seems necessary to remove the salt shaker from the dining table.

7.47 million people with hypertension and over 30,000 with stomach cancer in a year... What are the common risk factors?

According to data from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, last year, approximately 7.47 million people visited hospitals for hypertension (men: about 3.82 million, women: about 3.65 million). According to data released in December last year by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Central Cancer Registry, there were 29,361 cases of stomach cancer in 2021. Of these, 9,828 were women and 19,533 were men. A common risk factor for hypertension and stomach cancer is excessive consumption of salty foods. It constricts blood vessels and damages the stomach lining.

"Change your 'sweet and salty' habits now"... Break the vicious cycle of obesity and disease

When sodium intake increases, thirst becomes severe, leading to the consumption of sugary drinks. This creates a vicious cycle of rising blood sugar, obesity, and disease. Salt is also necessary. However, the problem is that Koreans consume 2 to 3 times the WHO recommended amount (5g). Efforts are needed to reduce simple sugars, such as using onions to add sweetness. Let's break the habit of adding salt and sugar before even tasting the food.

Once accustomed to the 'sweet and salty' taste, it is difficult to break free. The consequences are devastating. Even difficult-to-treat pancreatic cancer is increasingly associated with food-related factors such as diabetes. Even those in their 50s and 60s, who make up over 50% of cancer patients, need to change their eating habits.
