Flu symptoms are completely different from a cold... Beware of high fever and muscle aches!
Recently, I've been feeling chills, severe headaches, and extreme fatigue.
I thought it was just a cold... and I just took medicine and endured it, but the next day I had a 38-degree fever and muscle aches...
When I went to the hospital, they said I had flu symptoms 🥲 It was really much worse than a common cold.
✅ Difference in symptoms between cold and flu
| Classification | Cold | Flu |
| Start | gradual | Sudden and serious |
| Heat | None/mild fever | High fever (above 38°C) |
| Fatigue | Lightness | Extreme overall fatigue |
| Cough | mild cough | Dry cough + body aches |
| Other | Nasal congestion, sneezing | Chills, muscle aches, headache |
👉 A cold gets better with rest, but the initial symptoms of the flu come on suddenly and intensely! 😷
❗ Consequences of not treating the flu
Some people think, "If I just endure a few days, I'll get better," only to end up with pneumonia.
Especially, the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses are at a significantly higher risk of complications.
Fever persists for more than three days
✔ Shortness of breath or chest pain
✔ Loss of appetite + sudden severe fatigue
If you experience these flu symptoms, be sure to go to the hospital. I also ended up getting IV fluids and lying down for a week 😭
How should we diagnose the flu patient?
During times like these when the flu is in season, if you have the symptoms below, you should suspect it:
Sudden high fever
Severe muscle pain covering the entire body
✔ Accompanied by cough, phlegm, sore throat, headache, runny nose, etc.
✔ Fatigue is much worse than usual
A time when many people around you have the flu
👉 Especially if symptoms start quickly and strongly compared to a cold, it is highly likely to be the flu!
If your flu symptoms improve but then you develop a high fever, yellow phlegm, and severe cough again, there is a possibility of pneumonia, so be sure to seek medical attention at a hospital.
🛡 How to prevent the flu!
1. Flu vaccine vaccination – Get it every year!
2. Personal hygiene is essential – hand washing + mask wearing
3. Frequently ventilate indoor air
4. Immune system management – improving sleep, nutrition, and reducing stress
If you don't treat the flu, it really lasts a long time... catching it early is the answer.
Flu... I thought it was just a cold, but I got hit with a combo of body aches, high fever, and muscle pain, and I finally realized. 🫠
If you have suddenly become very tired recently, it could be an early symptom of the flu, so be sure to check!
