'National Actress' 85-year-old Sami-ja Overcomes Near-Death and Manages with 'This Diet'... What's it all about?
Actress Sami-ja (85) revealed her story of narrowly escaping death due to health issues.
On the TV Chosun show 'Healthy House 2' aired three days ago, actress Samija appeared as a guest. During the broadcast, Samija revealed that she had narrowly escaped death twice in the past and said, "I have been running forward without looking back. I didn't even realize I was in poor health. When I think about filming a drama in 2005, I still don't want to live now."
"I felt my chest tighten and pain, and I was sweating so much that when I sat down and stood up, everything around me was water," he said. He continued, "At that moment, I realized I was having a heart attack. Tests showed that all three coronary arteries were completely blocked, cutting off blood supply to the heart muscle. I immediately received emergency treatment," he said. The second near-death experience was due to a stroke.
Sami-ja said, "After a few years, another crisis came again. Everything else was good, but I heard there was a lump. During filming, my body tilted to one side," and "I don't know what happened next, but when I went to the hospital, it was a stroke. When I opened my eyes, I was in the intensive care unit." He continued, "In the past, I think I couldn't take care of my body. Looking back, I think my body was sending signals. If I had started managing my health early when I first noticed something was wrong, I wouldn't have gone through two near-death experiences, and I regret it very much."
In the video, Sami-ja was seen eating barley dried fish with an acquaintance. When asked if he usually follows such a healthy diet, he replied, "Yes. I mainly eat Korean food." Does consuming Korean cuisine actually help with health?
Fermented foods and seasonal ingredients are good for health
Korean cuisine is healthier. It is fundamentally composed of rice, soup, and side dishes. A traditional Korean full-course meal, which includes a variety of side dishes, allows for a more balanced intake of nutrients compared to other countries' diets. Among these, dishes such as doenjang (fermented soybean paste) and kimchi, which are considered representative Korean side dishes, are mostly fermented foods.
Fermented foods are rich in probiotics, greatly benefiting gut health, and also contain abundant antioxidants that eliminate reactive oxygen species attacking cells. Additionally, Korean cuisine uses seasonal natural ingredients and primarily employs cooking methods such as steaming or boiling that contain less oil. These cooking methods are effective in improving conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.
There are research findings that eating Korean food is actually healthier than Western cuisine. Professor Kang Jae-heon’s team from the Department of Family Medicine at Seoul Baek Hospital and Professor Ian Carston’s team from the Department of Endocrinology at Sydney University Hospital stated that eating Korean food is more effective than Western cuisine for reducing abdominal fat and improving glucose metabolism functions.
Be careful with soup dishes or seasonings.
However, not all Korean dishes are healthy. Even within Korean cuisine, it is important to choose healthy menu options. Soups, stews, and hot pot dishes tend to have high salt and cholesterol content, so caution is advised. It is best to avoid spicy broth dishes as much as possible and to focus on eating the ingredients to reduce salt intake. Additionally, it is better to opt for vegetable wraps or grilled fish rather than dishes loaded with spicy seasonings. Noodle dishes and pancakes are also high in oil, so it is recommended to reduce their frequency of consumption or eat them with vegetables. For staple foods like rice, eating brown rice or mixed grains, or combining rice with mushrooms or seasoned greens, is effective for dieting and nutritional supplementation.

Fermented foods are very good for health.
Especially, types of intestines contain a lot of salt.
It's better to eat less.
Spicy food tastes good, but...
I guess I have to endure it for my health.
