Prevent dry eyes by using eye packs and artificial tears.
Last year, I developed dry eye symptoms that made my eyes feel gritty and sandy all day long. I received treatment, and my eyes improved somewhat. However, I was worried that the symptoms would recur or worsen, so I looked up information on dry eye prevention. I found that massaging or compressing the eyes to improve blood circulation and using artificial tears to replenish moisture in the eyes can help prevent dry eye. So, I put in the right amount of artificial tears every day and used an eye compress before bed, and that helped prevent dry eye to some extent.
Dry eye syndrome has many causes. Environmental factors include excessive use of cell phones or computers, insufficient sleep, dry indoor environments, and fine dust. I find myself falling into many of these categories. However, my work and the environment I work in are inherently prone to dry eye, so eliminating or changing these environmental factors to prevent it seems difficult. So, I looked into ways to prevent dry eye and discovered that warm eye compresses activate the function of the meibomian glands, which help prevent dry eye. Meibomian glands are sebaceous glands located along the edge of the eyelids, inside the tarsal plate. They produce meibomian fluid, which prevents tear film evaporation and is said to be effective in preventing dry eye. So, I searched online, bought an eye compress, and applied a warm compress to my eyes every night before bed.
I also heard that regularly using artificial tears to replenish moisture in the eyes can help prevent dry eye, so I bought some and started using them. However, I was warned that excessive use of artificial tears can irritate the eyes and have negative effects, so I only used them once in the morning and once at night.
I've been using eye compresses and artificial tears every night before bed, and my dry eye symptoms haven't gotten any worse. I'll have to continue using the eye compresses and artificial tears to prevent dry eye.
