Recently, I dropped a curling iron on my thigh and burned it. At that time, it was the Lunar New Year holiday, so I couldn't go to the hospital and temporarily treated the burn myself with a burn bandage and ointment. As soon as the holiday ended, I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a superficial first-degree burn, and received burn treatment. This is a review of the burn treatment process, costs, and my experience.
I had never experienced a burn before, so when the doctor first said it was a superficial first-degree burn, I asked, "Huh?" in surprise.
Superficial first-degree burn refers to a burn that occurs only on the epidermis, resulting in redness without blisters. If blisters form and the skin peels, it is considered a second-degree burn. I was a first-degree burn, so I'm really lucky!!
I received burn treatment and dressing at the hospital, and I was also prescribed ointment. It's a first-degree burn, but they told me to come to the hospital for dressing for about a week. After that, I was told I could do it myself at home.
The total cost for that day was about 25,000 won.
The dressing change interval was every two days. I went back to the hospital after two days, and the dressing cost alone was over 6,000 won 🥲 As a working person, it's hard to go on weekdays, and since there are many people at the hospital, I have to wait for several tens of minutes. I only spend 3 minutes on the dressing, and in just 3 minutes, 6,000 won is gone...
Haha, everyone, be careful with your hair straighteners!!
First, supplies are needed for burn treatment. Medifoam and Mebo ointment are the first essentials. Mebo ointment is said to be essential for burn treatment!
Mibo ointment was applied consistently morning and evening. This ointment is unique because it contains sesame oil, so when you apply it, the smell of sesame oil is very strong lol.
But the problem was when I washed it. So I bought a waterproof band. The middle part is just a band, and the surrounding area looks like transparent tape.
After a few days passed like that
You have recovered a lot, haven't you???
By the way, that brown, shiny area is pusㅠㅠ
Still, the redness has disappeared, and only the darkened area remains. The process of healing involves changing from red to brown to flesh-colored!!
And currently
The hospital said that the brown part would fall off and new flesh would grow. Oh! Is the new flesh gradually coming in??
Everything is fine, but the problem is that it is extremely itchyㅠㅠㅠ However, I shouldn't scratch it...
Now that it has healed a lot, I am applying a special scar ointment for burn scars instead of Mibo ointment.
Even though it is a superficial first-degree burn, there were more treatments than I expected. I needed many supplies like bandages and ointments, and the costs added up little by little. When treating burns at home, do not substitute with household medicines; be sure to purchase the proper medical supplies!
Once again, everyone, please be careful with your curling irons...🫠
For those who, like me, have suffered burns from a curling iron, I am leaving behind big data. That was my review of burn treatment!
