Heel fasciitis can be caused by various factors such as obesity, aging, and flat feet, but if a healthy adult suddenly develops it, one should consider whether they have overexerted themselves during exercise. Heel fasciitis often occurs when the soles of the feet are subjected to repetitive impact through activities like hiking or marathons.

 

According to an orthopedic specialist, if you experience swelling or inflammation after running, you should take a rest immediately. Many patients ignore initial pain and continue exercising, which worsens their condition.

 

Experts emphasize that "the connective tissue and muscles of the foot are constantly undergoing a process of breakdown and regeneration," and that "in cases of injury caused by overuse, such as plantar fasciitis, sufficient time should be given for recovery and rebuilding."

 

If the disease has entered a chronic stage, extracorporeal shock wave therapy or sound wave therapy may also be considered. The plantar fascia is an area with less blood circulation, so its ability to heal degenerative injuries may be limited, but shock waves or sound waves help draw blood to the foot.

 

According to foot specialists, this is a method of "bombarding the wound area to aid in the recovery and regeneration of damaged fascia." However, most doctors recommend conservative treatment.

 

The best approach is to rest thoroughly and manage the pain. Experts say that "4 to 6 weeks of rest are necessary." It may be painful for those who jog daily, but there is no other way.

 

Experts emphasize the need for stretching that stimulates the calf muscles, Achilles tendons, and plantar fascia during rest periods. For example, sitting with legs fully extended and repeatedly pulling the toes toward the body.

 

Rolling a ball with the soles of your feet is also good. Especially in the morning, before getting out of bed, after sitting for a long time and before standing up, this kind of stretching helps reduce the characteristic pain of plantar fasciitis, known as 'the pain of taking the first step.'
