Applied cosmetics with royal jelly... "My skin became softer and more elastic"

Cosmetics made with royal jelly have been proven to improve skin wrinkles and roughness.

Royal jelly is a milky substance produced from the hypopharyngeal glands located in the head of worker bees, and it is known to be the food for the queen bee that lays eggs throughout her lifetime.

 

The Rural Development Administration research team previously focused on the fact that royal jelly is effective in protecting and moisturizing the skin from ultraviolet rays, and conducted research to commercialize it. The research team applied a serum containing royal jelly (facial essence) around the eyes to 20 adult women aged 30 to 60 for 12 weeks.

 

As a result, it was confirmed that applying royal jelly cosmetics improved skin roughness by 15.5% and reduced wrinkle depth by up to 21%. It decreased wrinkle-related proteins, thereby reducing wrinkles and also improving skin hydration.

 

Therefore, the Rural Development Administration compiled research results on the safety and efficacy of cosmetics containing royal jelly and submitted them to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in December of last year. The Ministry reviewed these and registered cosmetics containing royal jelly as functional cosmetics for skin wrinkle improvement.

 

Functional royal jelly cosmetics are currently in the process of commercialization through technology transfer from the industry. The products are expected to be available in the market as early as next month.

 

Along with this, the Rural Development Administration actively promoted the breeding of bee species, including 'Jelly King,' in 2019 to produce high-quality royal jelly. Since royal jelly requires advanced production technology, they also established a 'mass production system' to enable beekeeping farms to reliably supply functional cosmetic ingredients.

 

Director Lee Sang-jae of the Agricultural Biotechnology Division at the Rural Development Administration said, "Cosmetics containing royal jelly will become a new source of income for beekeeping farms," and "We will strive to support the stable production of royal jelly, revitalize domestic beekeeping farms, and introduce products that satisfy global consumers."
